Because Bryan Kirkwood didn't give a shit about continuity.

2010 was arguably the start of the 'King Phil' nonsense we see today.

I don't remember the police being involved even though people were nearly killed and it would have been obvious that it was arson.

Because he gets away with pretty much everything. He only gets sent down for things he didn't know. Honestly the man needs life imprisonment and unlike Max, I eould not care if it was him being falsley accused and wrongly inprisoned.

Thanks.

Shirley talked him out of handing himself in to the police but there would still have been an investigation into the fire. We saw a few police officers wandering aimlessly around outside the pub and then the whole thing was forgotten about.

Because even if he'd turned up at Walford Nick with a petrol can in one hand, a box of matches in the other and Peggy's lifeless body slung over his shoulder whilst belting out Firestarter, Marsden's muppets would have failed to raise an eyebrow.

He's the Philth.

Realism, continuity and soap justice do not exist where he is concerned.

Stacey and baby Lily nearly died - was there any remorse about that?

No.

He just went from p*** stained crack addict tramp to the King of the Square again in two minutes flat.

So forgive me for not getting all tearful whilst he waits for his (inevitable) liver transplant.

That drove him to become the alcoholic we know today due to his guilt at the time

I always found that odd as well - You would think the Walford Police would be looking for something to pin on the bugger and there he just handed it to them , but there wasn't even an inquiry.

None of it really made sense anyway - Peggy was curiously forgiving about Phil quite deliberately burning down her business and nearly killing everyone in the Square as their was a wedding party going on at the time.
Phil, rather typically, has never thanked Billy for dragging him out of a burning building and just continued to treat his cousin with contempt as before.

Further along, Alfie somehow managed to find found a replacement bust of Queen Victoria after the old one got charred. Maybe, there was a special offer in Tesco.
