Yesterday I bought Sainsbury's jam doughnuts
In my opinion they are the best, light and coated in cater sugar, with plenty of jam
Trouble was, they did not have their usual coating of caster sugar.
Are Sainsburys heeding requests for less sugar?
Did one batch escape the sugar coating by mistake?
Has anyone else found their doughnuts denuded ?

Oh no, Morrisons ones are the best.

My favourite jam doughnuts are from Lidls. Plenty of jam and cheap too.

This is not about who has the best ones.
It is about why the doughnuts I bought from Sainsburys had no dusting of caster sugar- a mistake or Sainsburys heeding government guide lines to cut sugar.

If people are buying doughnuts expecting a low sugar treat then the world truly has lost the plot.

Doesn't Sainsbury's still freeze their doughnuts and defrost them when ready to put on the shelves?

Anyway I'm sure it was a bad batch that didn't get coated properly.

They do sell a "healthier" option with less sugar and fat.

Don't you watch the news or read the papers?

Yes I do. Just wondered what Government guide lines there are that would make Sainsburys put less sugar on their doughnuts.

Heard a lot about the lidl dounghnuts being the best, still haven't tried them yet though. Not a lot between Morrisons and Sainsburys ones imo. Greggs are pretty good too.

I prefere Sainsburys doughnuts too, they have a 'just out of the fryer' crispiness to them and usually plenty of jam.

Had an Aldi or Lidl one the other day, was alright but lacked that fresh crispiness.

As far as I'm aware the only supermarket that make fresh doughnuts are Morrisons.

Not legislated for, but still guidelines that suggest:

Quote:
“Some labels on the front of packaging will display the amount of sugar in the food as a proportion of the reference intake. Reference intakes are guidelines about the approximate amount of particular nutrients and energy required for a healthy diet. The reference intake for total sugars is 90g a day, which includes the 30g of “free sugars”.”

The majority of sainsburys stores make doughnuts from scratch (fresh), depending on if the store is a part bake store or Scratch bakery.

The sugar hasn't changed, my guess is they probably run out of the sugar they order in and used some from the shop floor but got the wrong type.

You sure? As far as I'm aware Morrisons are the only supermarket to make fresh doughnuts. The other supermarkets just get them in frozen regardless of size of store.

Sainsburys doughnuts are the best in my experience.

That would not make them suddenly take the inexplicable decision not to put sugar on a doughnut though.

I can only comment on my store but all of the standard loaves as in the Sandwich, Split tins, Multiseed etc (no TTD French bread), soft baps, crusty rolls, French sticks and batons. Some stores do an artisan range.

Just surprised about the doughnuts, thought it was only Morrisons that did the fresh ones.
