Just a general discussion about Scotch Eggs.

My main points are...

1.- they are basically the equivalent of modern day breakfast bars. Apparently they are over two hundred years old.

2.- I don't think I have ever fully enjoyed one. They are usually fairly tasty buy then there's nearly always a bit where I bite and the consistency feels a bit "strange".

Saw picture of pudding scotch eggs on FB. The middle was a cream egg surrounded by brownie and dusted with cocoa powder. Looked great, calorific though!

Pfft.. For calories, get a large easter egg mould. Coat inside with seasoned breadcrumbs. Line with sausage meat. Line again with bacon. Fill with eggs, beans, black pudding. Deep fry, and enjoy breakfast!

Challenges I found were cooking everything, so I pre-cook the bacon, egg, black pudding first. Then it's just getting the sausage meat cooked. And keeping the two halves together!

Spoiler

I've eaten quite a few of their eggs, you normally find them at Good Food festivals and the like. Not cheap, but very nice.

Ever seen a scotch egg recipe on an US website? Very interesting, they go mad for this strange new food.

Some M&S stores sell them in their Gastropub range. 2 in a pack.

They're actually a starter in this year's Valentine Dine In. But you can buy them on their own if you're not wanting the deal.

It's made for sharing. And occasionally, on account of the hassle. Or running out of butcher's string. I've also made 4-person+ burgers out of loaves like these-

I make more conventional scotch eggs with the egg wrapped in bacon. When the bacon's on the inside, pre-cooking the bacon is safer

They tend to be home made rather than mass-produced. Just soft boil the egg instead of hard boiling before wrapping in sausage. But tempted this weekend to try making a sausage/black-pudding egg. Contrasting colours should be fun

Mmmm. Yeah, a local pub does them near to me. They're great. They also sometimes do haggis ones.

Manchester eggs are a winner. Basically a scotch egg made with a pickled egg, sausage meat and black pudding.

My local bakery makes them every Thursday - go down about lunchtime and they are warm and fresh. Divine.

My local butcher makes fantastic scotch eggs but they have won several awards for their sausages so hardly surprising.

At the moment all I'm picturing is exploding eggs, would you be able to share the recipe and method please?
