Is it me, or is Emmerdale moving at break-neck speed concerning storylines?
Slow down a bit!

No it's not just you, it's been this way for a while now and I feel like I have whiplash everytime a new storyline rears its head.

It's gone from one extreme to the other since Kate Oates took over, hopefully Ian Mcleod finds a decent middle ground.

I know that DS-ers feel highly insulted when it's suggested that they have *ahem* somewhat short attention spans, but you only have to read the plethora of posts on here complaining of sls being "dragged out" if they last more than a week to know that there is more than a grain of truth in it, particularly with the younger members.

It doesn't help of course that excessive spoilers are constantly giving away upcoming sls, which makes people feel that they already know or can guess the outcome almost before they even start and want to move on to the next thing.

In all fairness to Emmerdale, the background stories tend to last a lot longer. Vanessa/Kirin/Adam, Paddy/Tess, Laurel/Alcohol, Alicia/Lachlan.

It's the stories about the Dingle's, Ross and Robert that move quickly, meanig that we get more of them, meaning they annoy me more and more with each passing week.

6 months is plenty of time for a story to begin and end, I think.

Some storylines drag on and on and on (like the Debbie/Ross affair) and then others are started and finished straight away.

Emmerdale should try and get the balance right a bit more.

It's not as bad as Corrie though, the Hope storyline was practically finished straight away, completely unrealistic but I'm kind of glad in a way as it was awfully acted. The Callum storyline is a complete borefest though and seems to be dragging on.

Tell that to Ashley. By August, his every scene will have to start with him apologising for still being here.

But yes, I agree ED does generally have a good mix of slow burners and 'quickies' (in every sense, lol), and it's probably just our bad luck that the numerous fast-moving ones all seem to involve the same few characters a lot of us loathe the most.

Well that is one of those background stories that can carry on. His illness is ongoing and I certainly not looking forward to the end.
I'm sure there will be several little storylines contained within his so that it continues to work.

I think it's become more apparent since a specific two characters needed to take time off!

I love it! I like watching something unravel quickly rather than some soaps where a story moves at a snails pace, one advancement every few days, then for a week you dont even see those characters, then another small advancement....I just want to see what happens! I guess the only risk is that the characters run out of stuff to do or start looking ridiculous with all the crazy things they've had happen to them but if you have a large cast you can spread the action around a lot more which I think Emmerdale has been doing well too.

I would agree but when you look at what is happening from an objective standpoint, you can't help but see this is where they have gone wrong, what with the resorting to affair storylines, weddings and pregnancies to fill in the gaps. All of which we have had in abundance over the last year and a half with no signs of stopping.

I'm loving the recent trend for quick reveals.

I remember under Blackburn's reign of error when we'd see the same scene repeated time and time again until we got there. Corrie is now subject to that same thing.

Well it helps if the thread is in the right forum

I think it goes too fast. Noone wants overly long storylines yet there needs to be a happy medium

Surely nothing can beat the speed of Ali and Ruby's stories when they were still there? Ruby - pregnant, miscarried and wanting to try again for another baby, then dropping the idea altogether all in the space of roughly a week.

Don't forget Ruby's weird job with her male ex, who was potentially going to be a boyfriend to her again and Ali stealing his Grandad's money. That lasted all of a week too.
