CS: Last night's Salon scene...WTF?
What an utter pile of drivel last night's first Corrie episode was!!
The 'mouse in the factory' scenes, Sean's coat scandal, the awfull Connor scenes, the dreadfully staged 'football match' with Simon, but worst of all for me had to be that scene in the Salon with David, Gail & the 'clients!!' What the hell are the current set of writers trying to do with one of Corrie's best loved & most iconic characters, Gail?? For a start the whole situation was ludicrous, as if David eould have three clients booked all at the same time & just sitting in line like a bunch of schoolkids, but then bringing Gail in going on about him getting the kids' tea, just WTF?? How long has David been the only one in the Platt household capable of feeding the kids, Kylie was obviously at home & Gail as well so...?? Even when she could see how busy David was, the best she could do was look blank & vacant & prattle on like some sort of imbecile with one of the clients!! Was this supposed to be a comedy scene? If so it failed dismally!! How dare these writers destroy 40 years of Corrie character building & for what? Cheap 'laughs?' Complete cluelessness? Because they can? I'm bug*ered if I know but SURELY to goodness Helen Worth can't be happy with what they're doing to the character she's spent 40+ years building & moulding into the brilliant character she was?? Unless they are going to write into the story that Gail is losing her mind then there is absolutely no justification for her current 'persona' on the show!! People talk about which characters should be axed, I would start with at least 70% of the writing team personally!! |

I agree. The writing's terrible lately.
Helen Worth can carry great storylines and she is being wasted. She's become dippy comedy Mother in Law. The stuff with the O'Driscolls is a toyal yawnfest and very unrealistic. What kind of client has a dinner party and makes you do karaoke to keep doing business with you? The slave story ( Marta?) is clunky and out of place. The new Connors haven't bedded in yet are being given more screen time than long established favourites. Phelan and Anna was dragged out too long last time and now they're dishing up leftovers. The only was they can pull this off is if they give Phelan a big come uppance, which viewers were denied last time. It's just very weak at the moment. |

Yes, I agree - I'm sick of the bad sitcommy exchanges like
-'Since when have mice been reading papers?' -'Haven't you ever seen Tom & Jerry?' I could list a load of other examples from recent episodes, I'll stick with two - Sally remarking that Tim feels sorry for the dinosaurs 'every time we watch Jurassic Park' (How often do you watch it, for goodness sake!!?) -Mary blaming the 'rise of the ghetto blaster' and 'the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' for ruining her youth which doesn't even make chronological sense. This is not how regular people speak, like a cross between Justin Lee Collins and Russell T. Davies at his most arch. As for poor Gail, isn't it about time her obnoxious, ungrateful and duplicitous grown-up offspring moved out? One adult sibling still living at home - a true reflection of the modern world. All three adult siblings still living at home -kinda weird! The scene appeared to have been just put in there to humiliate Helen Worth for the umpteenth time. Maybe, she asked for a pay rise. |

Lol even I laughed by the end of it all as it was so bad! The mouse scene was terrible, I laughed because it was too cringe to bear. Johnny saying he had to pop out, Sally half way up the stairs, Marta running around with a coat over her head. Lol it was so bad I laughed

Exactly right. I don't care who owns the house, David should treat Gail far better than he does.

So should the scriptwriters. The Gail of previous years is totally unrecognisable in the 'comedy' turn of today.

What's sad is a generation of Corrie viewers will just remember Gail as some dimwit, baffoon, comedy character who specialises in failed marriages. Give her a backbone, please. She has put David in his place before, she can do it again. |

Yes, why do people think it's hilarious to see David treat his mother with such disdain. As a teenager, fine, but calling Gail by her first name as an adult, and chiding her....it's small time and boring.

Gail should have moved out and got herself a flat, get back her independence. Let's see how long David copes having to do the cooking and cleaning and getting the kids off to school every morning without Gail's assistance.
Mind you everyone treats her like a fool and the writers try and make Gail as ridiculous as possible. I remember when Stella and Gloria ended up working in the Bistro they got waiting jobs and acted like they ran the place, yet Gail (who is the restaurant owner's mother) is going about with her cleaning stuff being bossed about and looking the twit. The writers seem to forget she helped Alma run the cafe for many years (didn't she even have a share at one point?) As for the factory stuff that was laughable. This is meant to be part of Corrie's topical issue on slavery yet it is failing already as we have the idiots at the factory being part of it. And Kirk's moronic behaviour is annoying, he doesn't come across like an actual human being. How can someone like this exist? |

The slavery storyline had such huge potential, but of course with it being corrie it's been a huge let down. Why is she even in the factory at the first place, when its the factorys clients that are forcing her to work? it doesn't make sense or have I missed something? and then there's the forcing of the awful 'comedy' situation into it, when it should be serious and the pacing is way too fast.

Why didn't David send Gail to Roy's to get all his customers a coffee while they waited, no charge.

Yes, I've always found it strange that Gail never points out her experience at the Cafe.

Well, let's face it, we Corrie viewers are as thick as too short planks and we couldn't work out for ourselves that David was busy in the Salon.
We had to have a few indicators so that our small brains could work it all out. A line-up of old ladies looking impatient. A blunder with Beth's (why wasn't she at work) hair dye due to overwork. Being pestered by dopey Gail while he was at work. |

I miss old Gail. This thick Gail gets on my nerves. I wish actors would stand their ground and refuse to play their character differently. I've lost count how many soap characters have had personality transplants over the years.

The writing's abysmal. I hate what they've done to Gail.
I miss the days of her and Ivy at each others throats - real 'kitchen sink' queens they were. As for the Bistro, that particular eye assault waa Leanne's doing, wasn't it? With its cracked tiling, it puts me in mind of a men's urinals. I imagine it having a whiff of stale slash and disinfectant. We call it Nick's Pisstro. |
