Everytime I am lay out on my couch. He never used to do it ever and is 10 years old now.

Is this normal cat behaviour. My cat is usually the type that keeps himself to himself.

I'd say it was unusual for a cat not to sit on its owner's lap
Odd its changed its behaviour after so long, but then cats are notoriously fickle. Mine goes through phases of lap sitting for a few weeks and then several weeks of keeping herself to herself.

It might have started feeling the cold and sees you as a radiator!
