That's a stunning price for a truly incredible device.
12 months of the very best of what Sky has to offer in terms of movies and entertainment for less than £38? You can't go wrong really. |

No I don't work for Sky. But I love channels like Sky Atlantic and of course Sky Movies. It really is a stunning bargain being able to watch all the movies and the unmissable Sky Atlantic shows for £37.98 for an entire year.
Netflix costs at least £77.88 for a year and you don't get anything like as many hit shows and you certainly won't have 1000s of blockbuster movies to choose from. |

Keep in mind that the Netflix price you quoted is the standard subscription without the free month trial, or any other deals that have been around (I have seen 6 months off in the past), while the price you quoted for Now TV was a special and not the standard fare. Normally, Now TV Movies and Entertainment would set a customer back £204, which is a lot more than Netflix's £78. And as for hit shows, that is a personal choice. Whilst many would find the shows on Now TV to be more to their preference, others would be leaning towards Netflix's original productions which have made a lot of headlines lately. Personally, I think having both is pretty good. Still, oranges for oranges, if you are going to include the standard Netflix costs, you should compare with standard Now TV costs. |

This is a good deal and I appreciate the original post, but aurichie is not even comparing with the offer correctly. Where are you getting 12 months of both movies and entertainment for £38 from? For £38 It's 6 months of one and 4 of the other.

Two very good deals.
I thought Amazon had ceased selling streaming devices that couldn't offer Prime and also applied this directive to other Amazon sellers? Good news that it hasn't. |

You would need 2x 6 month Entertainment passes AND 3x 4 month Movie passes. Having said that I do enjoy NOW TV and this is a blindingly good deal. You just need to do your sums better. What would you do with 5 boxes though... |

What would you do with 5 boxes though... Sell the old boxes (CEX etc) or give them away to a friend/relative/somebody who can then use it to access the catch up services at no cost to themselves. |

Well I bought the 6 months entertainment one. My new TV has the NOW TV app so won't need the box. Will keep the pass for April when GOT returns.

OK here goes, I got the Now TV deal from Amazon 6 months for £18.99, I think is good value and I have the app on my TV so thought why not lets see why everyone raves about it. While it's good for box sets, I can't really see it as a viable alternative to Sky (unless I'm missing something). You can only see whats on and whats next, so how do you know if a programme you might like is on in say 2 days time? You can't record, so you can only watch live, and does it offer catch to the sky channels, so if I miss say GOT and I can find it on catch up.

But I agree with what you say about their episode management. The EPG should be longer, and I can't see why they don't allow cloud recording (Zattoo do this and it works a treat - Zattoo also offer a three week EPG, two ahead for setting reminders or recordings and one behind for catching up on every programme aired). I also think Now TV should offer plugin bundles to get extra channels should people want them, as well as adding FTA television into the mix. But it is still quite good. |

I've said for a while, what would make it a real killer was if they did offer various "bolt on" packages. I'd love to drop Disney, MTV, Nick, ITV Encore and replace with History Channel etc. I'd even pay the same amount to have less, but better channels for me. But I suppose this would encourage people to stop with Sky.
It's very annoying only being able to see the "next" program, you can't really plan an evenings viewing based around it. But again I suspect their answer would be, "well thats what Sky's for" As it is the channels are pretty much useless. |

Many UK customers simply live on the wrong side of an apartment or house to install a dish, or they are not allowed a dish, or they can't afford installation or long-term contracts. These people would never use Sky because they simply can't, so Sky's reluctance to offer more to Now TV customers is really pointless. |

^^ Yes and the main thing I hear as to why people like sky is the ability to record and watch programming when they want, same as Netflix, not when the broadcaster decides, thats so last century and not the way forward.
I'll stick with it for the next 6 months, theres a couple of things I want to watch, that won't be on Netflix for a long time if ever, but will probably stop come August, then re-start later on and just use the boxed sets. But besides GOT I can't see me using the "live viewing" feature, unless I happen to be on Now TV and something catch's my eye. I do like the leaving soon section, something Netflix should take note off. |

My understanding is that NOW TV is obligated, as part of the contractual agreement with licence holders, to make the content available via "Live TV" channels (as well as via catch-up). I was a bit surprised to learn that fact.
I subscribe to the view that, subject to a suitable broadband connection, the future of tv is non-linear. So, apart from Sports event coverage (which really needs to be watched live), I've never really thought of NOW TV as a service that is marketed at or would appeal to customers for Entertainment or Movie watching on a "Live TV" basis. I tend to think of it more as a Netflix style service but with newer Entertainment & Movie content (from Sky but on a cheaper basis). But at the end of the day, the NOW TV content may not appeal to everyone. |

Well yes but even then the UK box sets are only 12 or so and the US are 24 (excluding individual seasons within the set) so it's not got that much content. I was expecting more TBH.

I bought the box with 4 months of movies for £18.99 Wednesday night, it arrived today. I wanted the 6-months entertainment, but they had sold out earlier in the evening. But I'm paying £4.99 a month for entertainment until May anyway, and I'll cancel before they put me up to the normal price of £6.99 and fully expect another couple of reduction offers.
Had a Roku that is pretty much superfluous now, as Netflix I watch on my Youview box, and WWE and Amazon my Sony Blu-Ray. But couldn't resist this superb deal, so I gave my Romu to my mother, and a nice little bonus of replacing it with Now box is that I'll get the Sky Sports News HQ app, which has never been available on regular Roku devices. Waiting for an Ethernet cable to arrive from Germany then Ill Set the box up. My wi-fi is very good, but as my TV is very close to my router, I always prefer a wired connection wherever possible. |

Thanks Trainer
Thanks for the heads up on this. I ordered the box with 4 months movies. £18-99 is a bargain for the movies alone. I got it yesterday and I have sideloaded the Roku usb player so I can play MP4 movies from usb hd. Very pleased that Digital Spy helps us share news about great deals and new kit.
