Just had to have my cat put to sleep

Just had to have my cat Titch put to sleep She was old (nearly 25) and wasn't well - got very thin, drinking a lot, falling over and misjudging jumps, messing and wetting everywhere, she was also deaf and had no sense of smell, but I'm going to miss the old girl R.I.P Titch

RIP Titch

She knew she had been loved Shaun, but you're bound to be ...she was a good age, bless her

Sad news and never an easy decision.

A few years ago, we had out cat PTS at the ripe old age of 24 and although hard, we knew it was the best thing as he was in a similar state to Titch. The vet told us he would have died within the month, but we didn't want him to hurt himself in the process.

You can be pleased that he had such a long and happy life.

Goodness me - 25 must be getting on for a record!
Bless her, it does sound like it was time for her to go, and obviously you loved her very much.
RIP Titch.

25 is a fantastic age Shaun, and obviously you are going to miss her so much. I know I'd be heartbroken.

But just be comforted by all the happy years you had together - of the love, trust, familiarity and understanding you shared. Remember her in her prime.

Just think of all the changes she lived through, from pre internet days to what we have now. Amazing.

RIP Titch x

Thanks all. Its certainly weird here without her for company (I live alone), I do have snakes but they're not the same.

Is it too early to consider getting another, Shaun?

Bless -
Shaun that's an amazing age for a cat you obviously looked after her really well and you should be very proud and I'm sure she gave you mutual happy memories.

Fantastic age Shaun at 25, I didn't realise cats could live so long. So sorry for your loss, I can imagine how you feel. I have 2 of 13 years, 1 of 4 years and a baby at nearly 2 years. I love them all and hope they live as long as Titch. R IP Titch. What a great parent you were.

I am already thinking about it, I'll give a home to another rescue cat.

Thank you everyone.

When I lost my Holly a few years ago I could never figure out if my desire for another cat was genuine or whether it was just to fill the cat shaped hole in my life. It was 4 months when I got my Lily and nearly two years on I can't imagine life without her : )

Good on you for thinking rescue. Lily was from a litter of kittens found struggling in a shed (her mum died soon after due to injuries from abuse).

How sad, but wow what a great age! That surely is the absolute upper end of the scale & how fantastic she grew to be that old!

I had to have my eldest girl PTS last summer at the age of 15 & 1/2 years, I'd had her since she was a baby of 8 weeks old and like your baby she had become extremely painfully thin, and gone stone deaf. It broke my heart but like the vet said, she'd had a very good life and she loved me as much as I loved her.

Your lovely girl did amazingly well to live that long and I'm so sorry for your loss.

Can I add my respect too for you going the rescue route. There are so many little dears out there just waiting for someone to love them & whichever one you choose (or chooses you) will be very well looked after I'm sure.

My 3 I have left are all rescues and I'm so lucky to have each of them. I'm not sure who owns who really, but I love them all dearly.
