I am going to make eggs benedict. I have always wanted to try it.

What's the best way to cook the salmon?

Many would use smoked salmon.

Other than that you can cook a fillet any way you want. Fry, poach, steam.

Eggs Benedict is traditionally served with pancetta, crispy streaky bacon or very thinly sliced smoked salmon.
I wouldn't serve it with cooked salmon fillet.

Anyway, making perfect poached eggs and hollandaise will be the making of you, not which of the above you choose

Eggs Benedict is served with thinly sliced ham. Eggs Florentine is with spinach and no ham. When it's served with smoked salmon it's called something else, but I forget what (it's late here). If you're wanting to use salmon, use a good quality smoked salmon.

Buy a jar of hollandaise sauce makes things a lot easier.

I've never made Eggs Benedict myself as it seems too much of a faff and I'm rubbish at poaching eggs but it's one of my favourite breakfasts when I'm stopping in a decent hotel (and washed down with a bloody mary)

I have purchased a jar of ready made Hollandaise sauce and some smoked salmon.
I thought the smoked salmon needed cooking, that's why I asked which was the best way to cook it, but I will check.

I am hoping to do this for the wife on Sunday.

So, basically, "I'm going to make Eggs Benedict" means you're going to attempt a poached egg for Valentine's Day.
Go for it Tiger!

Is it already cooked then?
Doesn't look like it but I have not yet read the details on the packaging.

It is cooked via smoking. Don't cook it!

I would have done that but wanted to get it right the first time I make EB.

I will make my own sauce the second time if the wife likes it.

Room temperature is fine. You don't need to do anything to smoked salmon, except eat it!

I wonder if Roger will let us know if his wife was won over by his culinary exploits.
