What do you think about the new Emmerdale producer Iain Macleod?

When I first heard that he was taking over I was extremely worried about the state of the show and what was going to happen with him coming from Hollyoaks and everything.

But after the press conference interviews he gave earlier this week I was presently surprised, he seems to have a good head of hair on him and has got some brains in him.

So what do you think?

I welcome him to Emmerdale and wish him good luck. I hope he will aim to rid us of the continuous sex, crime and violence that has been the genre of the outgoing producer. I know this will take time, as the shows are made well in advance, and we will not see his influence for many weeks, months even.

He's come across well so far. Interested to see what his own plans are in the long term as what we know so far just seems a continuation (no bad thing). He seems pretty enthusiastic and positive. I like the idea of a 'thriller' week in the Autumn rather than anything too stunt focused.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he comes up with before passing any judgement.

I look forward to the scenes in the autumn as I always do, the deciding factor on how good it is will depend on how well it is handled after the fact.

I'm more interested to see the transition between his and Kate Oates work.

I like everything he's said so far except not thinking a cross over between Corrie and Emmerdale could work. I don't know why he thinks it'd be a continuity nightmare, the US soaps have done it flawlessly so why can't Corrie and Emmerdale?

No!!!!

Trust me, Mark. That would not work to audiences here in Great Britain.

Why not?

And I'm not talking about full blown story at first, they can do something small maybe Liz and Chas meet a a female pub owners convention and share a scene together, Nick and Carla visit Home Farm as a potential wedding venue or when the helicopter crash they could have shown the characters on Corrie watching the news report of the crash. If they start off small like that to prepare viewers for a larger cross over story.

Viewers would switch off in droves.

When I hear the words "Hollyoaks Producer" all I seem to think now is "Someone dying every other week"

I honestly don't see why as long it would be believable, also it'd be a great way to get viewers who don't watch both soaps to tune into both. I need to talk to Ian and Kate I will show them how to make it work

I have to pass on that as well Mark
That's why i hate US daily soaps anyway. They lack any crediability, and this is coming from someone who grew up in the states and watched most of them.

Now come one that wasn't the case for all of them. But why do you feel that a crossover would not be a realistic story? And wasn't there a cross over between Hollyoaks and Brookside, how as the audience reaction to that one?

I don't think anything of him as he hasn't started yet - I'm going to wait and see. There are a few other threads on the subject where you'll get the thoughts of a lot of people

Well I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I loved when All My Children and One Life to Live did their cross over stories, I always though it was cool to see certain characters from each show interacting with each other, it provided a different dynamic.

I'm apathetic to him until I see what he brings to the table. Don't forget that Kate Oates was lauded as the saviour of Emmerdale at one point. And we all see how that turned out.

Exactly. Plus some of us don't watch all the soaps. Of the UK soaps I only watch Emmerdale and I wouldn't like a crossover of ED and a soap I don't watch. If that happened then it would be good bye from me

Would you really tune out if they did a cross over with Corrie? See I was thinking it would make you tune in if one of your favorites was going to be on Corrie then you might find yourself enjoying it and become a regular viewer.

Agreed, it's a terrible idea. Soaps stretch credibility enough as it is, without venturing into the realms of fantasy of things like crossovers. They should be kept in their own littlest words.

Is it that unrealistic for someone from Manchester to go to Yorkshire?

On the last episode of Corrie in the US Dev was going to Yorkshire, what would have been the harm in him saying he was going to this little village called Emmerdale?

I recently read on Trip Adviser a review of a tourist attraction by an American lady. She gave it only one star because it didn’t accept US dollars. Mark reminds me of that lady - the American way is the only way.
