I recently got a 1.5mb Android update to my Nexus 7 running Marshmallow , however when I try to install it the tablet reboots and I get an Android error . I get the Android robot lying on it's back with the word "Error" underneath .I've tried it several times also clearing the cache with the same results , any ideas what I could try to fix this ?

I got this with a nexus 9 update at about the same time. I did extensive internet research and it is best to just accept that it is a brick. It cannot be recovered unless you send it back to where you bought it for repair. I bought mine from Amazon. I sent it back and had it returned in a week. Sadly it was reset to factory settings (I expected this from my research) so had the pain of resetting all my apps. I have now backed it up to the cloud so if it does happen again I should be able to restore.

the only option would be going with a factory re-image to return the machine to factory-new state and hopefully clear whatever is causing the update to fail.

Fixed it by loading the new factory image using Nexus toolkit
