New country artist I discovered today: Dori Freeman
She's just released her eponymous debut album and it is brilliant. Here's a good review of it.
http://www.savingcountrymusic.com/do...f-high-praise/ On listening I was hooked after two songs. The song writing is top notch, the singing is beautiful, the musicianship is fantastic, and the production is excellent. The simple arrangements and production really allow her voice to be the focal point. A lot of artists could learn something from this 24 year old lady. |

That's the problem with "Country" the vast majority of DS contributors aren't that interested. It's a shame, because as with this girl, the standard of singing, often with no "digital enhancements" as there is with many pop singers, is usually quite high. As an example, I think these are quite talented. lots of videos on You Tube, but few on this forum would have heard of them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDwTJ8NJU5M |

I was waiting until I had listened to the whole album. I'm a Mary Chapin Carpenter and Lucinda Williams fan so It was good to hear a new female Country artist.
The OP missed out the best aspects of the album though. It's actually quite a diverse record in terms of influence, there's some American folk and roots music in this, probably helped by the production of Teddy Thompson which lets the music breath. You get a real feel for how this girl would sound live, I expect to see her on Jools Holland some time. |

Thanks for the recommendation. Will check out. Recently I've discovered Eilen Jewell & Kacey Musgraves. I'd never heard of them until Bob Harris played a couple of their songs. Very talented singer/songwriters.

The videos don't play alas, but what I've heard from Amazon samples sounds great.
The fact that Teddy Thompson is involved should help, certainly made me want to check it out further |

Here's a guy I discovered late last year. I really love his covers of Waitin Round To Die and Still Drunk, Still Crazy, Still Blue.
Whitey Morgan - definitely of the outlaw pedigree. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHhZO21SGI4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cN9wBBa4Xl0 |
