So after 4 rounds, your Favourite Hollyoaks Character 2016 will start to be revealed and throughout the rest of today. But before we get to the top 10 as just ranked by you, we will count down the 58 characters that were included this year.

Last year there were 47 characters, this year there are 58, with 1 re-entry and 20 new entries!!!

Last year it was all change at the top as Dodger took the top spot followed by Cindy in 2nd place and Darren took 3rd. However Dodger left shortly after this and so it's all to play for as to who can take the top spot.

Note the characters will be with a bit of commentary – don’t take it to heart if you like a character and I don’t. Also included will be where the character was in last years rankings in brackets – so you can see if the character has risen or fallen year on year and also their ranking history throughout the many years this has run...

58 [NE] = Pete Buchanan = 4.77% (Round One)

So this year the lowest ranked character is the first of 20 new entries! It's no real surprise that Pete is the lowest ranked character this year given the type of character he is/ what he has done both on screen and in the past. Last year there were only 47 characters and the lowest ranked character was Lucas Hay, the year before that the award went to everybody's favourite Vincent

57 [NE] = Scott Drinkwell = 5.11% (Round One)

Next up another new entry as Scott debuts second from the bottom. He came into the show as Sinead's cousin so is the only family link left in the show for Diane (well tenuously anyway barring the baby). He's not been on screen lately (maybe a blessing given his ranking), however looking at spoilers he looks set to return soon. As shown by his storylines so far, he isn't a nice character and will be interesting to see if this continues when he returns throughout 2016.

56 [NE] = Joanne Cardsley = 5.35% (Round One)

A hatrick of new entries at the bottom of the rankings this year as next up is Joanne Cardsley; a character from the Loveday's past and a character who had an affair with Louis Loveday. She appeared first in a flashback episode exploring the Lovedays passed however has made apperances since then causing more trouble for the family. Not the best debut ranking... but I guess better than Scott and Pete's.

55 [NE] = Ellie Nightingale = 5.58% (Round One)

And another new entry at 55 as Ellie becomes the lowest ranked of the new Nightingale family. The only character from the Nightingale's to make it passed round One was Nathan; maybe had the rankings started later then I think Alfie may have also made it given his storyline with Jade and what's to come. However Ellie debuts at 55, I think this is a little low but the character isn't the most likeable and at times I think she is meant to come across as comedy... but it doesn't really work out that way and she is just irritating. As more Nightingales have and will be introduced I guess it will be good to see how Ellie develops and whether she can improve.

54 [46] = Freddie Roscoe = 5.59% (Round One)

So completing the bottom 5 is and whilst he drops 46-54, he was the 2nd lowest character last year only in front of Lucas. As there are 11 more characters this year, he does actually improve slightly; this may be because he has been off screen for such a long time and I know that many were excited to see him become a victim of the Gloved Hand Killer... but he survived... Again! Freddie has more lives than any character having been shot in the world's naffest siege too. Kirkwood though seems intent on flogging a dead horse and is back with us.

No real surprises for the bottom 5, although I expected Ellie to be a bit higher.

53 [NE] = Diego De La Cruz = 6.22% (Round One)

Another new entry next as Myra's latest squeeze debuts within the bottom 10 characters. He returned following Myra back from Alicante and I guess has really be bought into the show as a bit of comic relief. He didn't make a big impression vote wise and will be interesting to see if he makes it through a full year on the show or if he will be just a flash in the pan character before returning to Alicante.

52 [NE] = Sally St Claire = 6.34% (Round One)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-X-X-52)
The new entries keep on coming as head mistress Sally also debuts in the bottom 10. I think the timing/ running of the competition is key to where some characters place and had this been a week or two later then I think Sally would be ranked higher as we've seen much more of her. I think when the casting was announced I was dubious; only given who is in charge of the show and his shortcomings over stunts/ flash in the pan stories. However I think the character has settled in well and there is an interesting relationship with John Paul building up. Hopefully we get to see more of Sally as I think she is an interesting character for the show to have.

51 [47] = Lucas Hay = 6.93% (Round One)

Last year's lowest ranked character does better this year with 7 characters below him. He is the lowest ranked child character on here though once more; with both Charlie and Leah having good years. Lucas is younger than both of those characters though so may take a little longer to get bigger storylines and when he does may make more of an impact on here.

50 [18] = Tegan Lomax = 7.03% (Round One)

Tegan takes an almighty drop down the rankings this year; falling 32 places from 18th place last year. The character has always had it's naysayers, however the last year seems to have seen them swell quite largely especially with the Ziggy drama and also the baby swap stuff as well. As a whole the Lomax's have suffered a fair bit this year and I don't think killing off their parents has helped them in a big way.

Been looking forward to this! I agree that Sally probably would have been higher had the competition been a few weeks later.

Wow that is a big drop in popularity for Tegan.

49 [43] = Nico Blake = 7.14% (Round One)

Probably my least favourite character; Nico take a drop of 6 places down the rankings after a lowly debut ranking last year. I think part of the problem with Nico is that we've got psycho Sienna and psycho Patrick that having Psycho Nico is just a bit boring. Plus the fact the actress playing her isn't the best doesn't help. We've seen Nico killer 2 people, the most recent being her grandfather Patrick and it seems she is following in her mum's psycho tendencies. I hope she gets some form of comeuppance in the future as she needs one.

48 [40] = Peri Lomax = 7.27% (Round One)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-45-40-48)
From one whiney teenager to another as Peri also drops down the rankings this year (as do all the Lomax girls). In the last year Peri got up the duff by Tom and then got cold feet about the whole thing and leg it. I've never been a massive fan of Peri either and again I don't think the pregnancy storyline with Tom has helped in a big way. Be interesting to see how things pan out in 2016 between her, Tom and the baby.

I'm suprised Nico has made it this far.

47 [NE] = Sonia Albright = 7.41% (Round One)

Another new entry next as Sonia debuts at 47; she came into the show as 'Lisa Loveday' before it being revealed she is in fact an imposter. Whilst some know about the fact, we've still got the big reveal to come with Louis and Simone. I think they'll be a lot of storylines coming up with Sonia; especially with the reveal and also with Jade's cancer storyline set to kick off in a big way too.

46 [NE] = Jade Albright = 7.61% (Round One)

I've said before about timing of the competition and I think Jade is possibly another character who would've benefitted from this being a couple of weeks later. We've seen Jade recently being diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma after a dream-like episode which saw her dream to have a perfect day. The storyline though looks set to be a long runner and also impact on other characters too. With the news Alfie will also be diagnosed too, I hope that this is going to be done properly and not for sensationalist purposes. However I like Jade and her and Alfie's optimism is something which is in short supply in the village.

45 [NE] = Rachel Hardy = 7.70% (Round One)

Next up is another new entry as Nathan Nightingale's girlfriend debuts. As I've said the Nightingales and their girlfriends haven't fared the greatest. Rachel hasn't had the biggest amount of screen time or storylines so I guess the rankings isn't a shock. I guess she may be more popular if she gets her own storylines rather than being more of a reactant to things going on around her. But with more Nightingales coming I guess we'll be seeing more Rachel (if she stays with Nathan anyway).

44 [NE] = Neeta Kaur = 7.94% (Round One)

Neeta's up next just ahead of fellow Nightingale girlfriend Rachel. I wont go into the whole Nightingale poor placing again; but I guess goes to highlight this even more. Neeta is Mac's latest 'wife' after Cindy and also the newly introduced Marnie. I guess the Nightingales haven't been in the show long and all the secrets are slowly coming out. So as with Ellie and Rachel we'll probably be seeing a lot more of Neeta and hopefully her character explored a bit more.

43 [28] = Tom Cunningham = 8.36% (Round One)
(Ranking History = 35-40-44-32-28-43)
Not of a new entry next by contrast one of the longest running characters; however Tom takes a tumble down the rankings this year. I personally find Tom irritating; however I think the baby with Peri does bring an extra dimension to the character. He has had a tough time of it over the years though with near enough every relative dying. Thankfully though Jack and Frankie don't seem to be going anywhere soon.

42 [NE] = Mac Nightingale = 8.42% (Round One)

Missing out on a place in the top 40 is head of the Nightingale clan; Mac. A lot of Mac's past has come out of the woodwork since his debut regarding the parentage of Alfie and also his relationship and marriage to Cindy. With the influx of characters and I think there is a load more of Mac to find out. David Easter is a bit of soap legend what with his turn as Pete Callan in Family Affairs and also appearing for a stint in Brookside and also appearance in Emmerdale. So the character is in capable hands; hopefully the storylines for him are.

41 [39] = Lindsey Butterfield = 8.36% (Round One)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-12-39-41)
Missing out on a place in a place in the top 40 with a drop of 2 places for the villages latest serial killer. Two years ago Lindsey was the highest new entry for her down to Earth portrayal of Lindsey; a likeable character and one with a lot of potential. Fast forward two years and the character has had major revisions; going between Joe and Freddie, being involved in Dr Browning's death and being revealed as having been involved in her sisters accent when she was younger. However last year saw everything escalate more when the Gloved Hand Killer started killing off patients as the hospital. Lindsey was revealed to be the killer and since then has been trying to cover up. I don't mind Lindsey being the killer, it's just the writing for the thing isn't great. With Silas back on the scene there is obviously alot more to come from this storyline.

Hopefully Jade, Rachel and Neeta all fare better next year!

Not surprised Lindsey is continuing to drop down the rankings, she's completely irredeemable now.

Neeta and Ellie are like watching paint dry!!

40 [32] = Diane O'Connor = 9.04% (Round One)
(Ranking History = 25-33-20-19-32-40)
Kicking off the top 40 and continuing to drop after a peak at 19 two years ago is Diane. Diane is a character who I think is a little pointless these days. Finn and Sinead have both gone and its difficult in some respects to see why she is still on the show. We have seen her go through the mill firstly with Finn, then the Sinead/ Tony affair and then the poison business with Scott. Be interesting to see how things develop with Scott back in the picture soon.

39 [NE] = Alfie Nightingale = 9.10% (Round One)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-X-X-39)
The first new entry in the top 40 goes to Alfie Nightingale and he is the 2nd highest of that family unit. I quite like Alfie as a character and like Jade is very much an optimist and positive character; so I guess it's typical Hollyoaks that both are set to go through a Cancer battle together. Despite being in the show a short time we've seen Alfie learn about his real parentage and also set to learn a cancer diagnosis. I think 2016 will be a big year for the character and I can't help thinking the storyline isn't going to have a happy ending... but Kirkwood may surprise us I guess.

38 [NE] = Zack Loveday = 9.42% (Round One)

Another new entry next as Zach debuts at 38; he is the lowest ranked of the 3 Lovedays; but isn't a bad debut ranking. Over the course of the last year we've seen Zach try his luck with the ladies of the village before hooking up with Theresa McQueen. However since learning Sonia isn't actually his sister, the two have kissed. He's also had shenanigans with his dad's ex mistress Joanne too. So very busy in the bed department. With the Lisa/ Sonia thing set to be revealed at some point in 2016 Zach will have to deal with the fall out of his cover up.

37 [NE] = Ben Bradley = 9.54% (Round One)

The last of the round one exit's goes to yet another new entry and Ben Bradley aka the Village's next rubbish cop who can't solve any of the murder's/ crimes debuts at 37. Since being in the show Ben's daughter Carley was killed by Nico (as yet undiscovered) and Ben has since started become obsessed with putting away Trevor for the GHK deaths. If all that wasn't enough he is hooked up with psycho Sienna - the poor bloke doesn't have a chance. No doubt Ben will get alot of things to do in 2016 with the GHK probably being revealed and the fallout from that.

Next up another new entry (they're coming thick and fast!) and the lowest ranked of the McQueen clan as Cleo debuts at 36. We've seen Cleo struggle; firstly with dating Harry and him ending up with Ste and then with her relationship with Pete Buchanan. She hasn't had the best time of it since coming into the village. With Pete still knocking around the village you can bet 2016 will also be a bit of an uneasy/ crap time of it for Cleo too.

35 [36] = Leah Barnes= 6.55% (Round Two)

So Leah climbs a place and equals her previous best from 2 years ago. As you can see from the rankings she has been consistent over the years. The child actress showed during the Brendan/ Ste storyline that she is very capable and I guess as she gets older Leah will get more storylines and be more at the forefront. Until then I guess it'll be difficult for the character to really challenge the big guns.

34 [41] = Charlie Dean = 7.84% (Round Two)

Another climber and another child character next as Charlie reaches an all time high in the rankings and enters the top 40 for the first time. He also surpasses Leah as the top childhood character and managed to gain entry into the second round for the first time. The last year or so has seen Charlie be involved much more in storylines and especially in the GHK plot; him being one of the few people to know that the person is Lindsey. I guess it just shows that storylines/ more screen time can majorly help so will be good to see what else 2016 has in store for Charlie especially in relation to the unveiling of Lindsey.

33 [19] = Holly Cunningham = 7.97% (Round Two)

Holly take a massive drop down the rankings this year after reaching the top 20 last year and i'm not that surprised given the awful love triangle she is involved in and the fact she pretty much a liar in all her storylines. I think the last year hasn't been a great one for the character especially given how good she was in the previous year having to content with supporting Jason and dealing with Cindy's mental state. We've got the Holly/ Jason wedding coming up; but no doubt the third person in the relationship will be revealed soon for Jason vs Robbie Part seventy five billion.

32 [16] = Jason Roscoe = 8.26% (Round Two)

Also taking as a big drop down the rankings this year is Jason; part of 'that love triangle' which basically shows Jason to be even more niave and wet. I have liked the character of Jason over the years and the body dysmorphia stuff was well portrayed; but since being a copper, the character has been a bit of dud for me. Alfie Browne-Sykes though is smoking hot though! We should see more of Jason what with the reveal of the triangle no doubt coming out in an OTT Hollyoaks way!

31 [30] = Cameron Campbell = 8.37% (Round Two)

Dropping a place and outside the top 30 is Lomax parent killer Cameron. Over the last year we have seen Cameron develop from bad-boy with possible heart to utter bastard. The reveal he deliberatly killed the Lomax parents; attempting to kill Leela, however killing Ziggy instead and then kidnapping and driving Lockie out of the Village. No doubt more bad-boy antics will be on the way for 2016, however its safe to say he's gone into the irredeemable area in character terms.

Thank you for doing this, yohinnchild. Surprised Ellie is low - Expect her to rise next year (Along with Alfie, Jade, Neeta & maybe Sally).

I'm glad Charlie has moved up. I'm not suprised Holly's popularity has plummeted, the same as Tegan and Lindsey. It just goes to show how being involved an awful storyline can be detrimental to a characters popularity, although I've always disliked these characters.

It's a real shame about Holly's position, but I'm not surprised. The Roscoes have dragged her down, just like they dragged Lindsey down.
