I agree, and i always suspected deep down that other characters would be sacrificed and or ruined for the roscos. I was proven right.

30 [NE] = Reenie McQueen = 8.50% (Round Two)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-X-X-30)

The first of 5 new entries within the top 30 goes to Reenie McQueen who was introduced as the mother of the next wave of McQueen girls. The character has had a very rocky past with her association with Pete and everything that he has done. No doubt this is going to continue throughout 2016 especially as we all know Kirkwood loves a McQueen.

29 [20] = Leela Lomax = 8.53% (Round Two)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-21-20-29)

And following the trend for the Lomax' Leela drops to her lowest ranking to date and back out of the top 20. Again she hasn't exactly had great storylines or writing and the involvement with Cameron and the fact she takes him back again and again isn't great. I think she could be a good character and there is a capable actress there; just the last year hasn't been too good.

28 [29] = Nana McQueen = 8.56% (Round Two)
(Ranking History = X-X-30-39-29-28)

Nana climbs a places to her highest ranking to date; not too bad for Hollyoaks' oldest character. Nana McQueen is usually used as a bit of comic relief from other major storylines; although over the years we have seen her get some meaty things to do including being attacked by Finn and also the introduction of Reenie and Pete into the show.

27 [34] = Theresa McQueen = 9.23% (Round Two)
(Ranking History = 14-13-37-36-34-27)

Next up Theresa climbs to her highest ranking for three years; however still quite a way away from her glory days when she was challenging for a finalist position. The character though is set to leave the village once again (seeing as she's left on numerous occasions), however I think it's safe to say that she'll be returning. In the last year we've seen her hook up with Zach Loveday; which will probably be over soon given his bed hopping ways.

26 [NE] = Louis Loveday = 9.80% (Round Two)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-X-X-26)

The fourth highest new entry this year goes to Louis Loveday who is beaten only by his wife, Nathan and Harry. Louis is a teacher at the local school along with John Paul and have seen him dealing with 'Lisa' returning and also Joanne being back in the fold. I like Louis though as a character and the family unit of the Lovedays; I would say they've been more successful as a family than the introductions of the Roscoes and now the Nightingales. Maybe it's because they're not so en-mass and in your face.

25 [21] = Frankie Osborne = 9.86% (Round Two)
(Ranking History = 23-28-27-31-21-25)

Dropping 4 places, however remaining fairly static over the last six years is Frankie. As a character she has been off screen for a fairly huge amount of time so hasn't been up to much!! However as a family the Osbornes have done an awful lot; with Darren and Nancy's reunion, Jade being taken in and her diagnosis etc so a lot has happened and no Frankie. But I guess should mean that 2016 can only be a step up for the amount of Frankie screentime!

24 [23] = Kim Butterfield = 9.87% (Round Two)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-X-23-24)

Dropping a place is Kim who has again remained pretty static over the year. Kim is a bit of a weird one really as she clearly has some problems (as does her sister) as she has been helping to cover up Lindsey's murders at the hospital. When she was introduced she was a love interest of Esther's... however that sort of didn't go to plan. The Butterfield sisters are no doubt going to have a big 2016 with the reveal of Lindsey no doubt happening at some point this year.

23 [15] = Myra McQueen = 10.26% (Round Two)
(Ranking History = 11-16-10-X-15-23)

Next up and also dropping down the rankings is Myra, who drops out of the top 20 for the first time. We've seen Myra have to content with all sorts due to her children's shenanigans and even seen her fake her own death. However recently we've seen more comedy coming out from Myra with the introduction of her younger boyfriend Diego and also budding friendship/ relationship with Nathan. Kirkwood is a keen McQueener, so 2016 will no doubt see alot more McQueen shenanigans.

I'm suprised Kim hasn't had a greater drop, after her sudden personality transplant and the Grace rubbish.

22 [NE] = Simone Loveday = 10.39% (Round Two)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-X-X-22)

Simone just misses out on a place in the top 20, however still debuts pretty highly and is the third highest new entry this year. I like Simone and think she is a good character with depth and played really well. Obviously there is a whole past history there with Lisa's disappearance and now Sonia being on the scene; we've also seen Louis' infidelity as well. As a unit (as previously said) I think the Lovedays work well and its good to see all three do relatively well in their debut year.

14-02-2016
21 [06] = Maxine Minniver = 10.99% (Round Two)
(Ranking History = X-X-15-10-06-21)

And finishing outside the top 20 (in fact top 15) for the first time is Maxine; a character who has graced the final round twice since her debut. However the storyline with Patrick just dragged and now the aftermath with his death/ murder is dragging the character even more. I know the Blake's are incredibly popular and I liked them for the first year (or so), but as a whole they're just dull now. There's only so many kidnaps/ being held captive etc a family can do and it's all just very meh. Sadly Maxine has been at the centre of a lot of it. The initial domestic violence storyline was good; but even that didn't hold together as it kept going on and on. It's Hollyoaks' reluctance for any bad character to get a comeuppance that's the problem and the reasoning behind there being no pay off is always so flimsy too that it destroys the storylines. Hopefully 2016 will see Maxine redeem herself a bit.

Thank you for doing this enjoying reading it

Harry in the top 20? Really shocked!

Top 5 will probably be all Osborne's won't it? I don't mind them but, apart from Darren I find them all pretty meh and boring now personally

I think the top 10 will be, which I'm happy about as they are my favourite characters, especially Nancy. I think Mercedes, Trevor and Grace will get a high ranking as well.

Some interesting informed analysis of what has been happening to the characters in the past year. I am relieved that Leela is in the top half, if only just! Admittedly I voted her number 1 in both polls.

Thank you yohinnchild. Reading this list makes me realise how many awful characters we have nowadays. I hate a good 75% of the people on who have placed so far. Surprised to see the likes of Tom, Jade and Alfie so low and very surprised to see Maxine outside the top 20.

Looking forward to the top 20....I wonder where Trevor and Grace have placed? Trevor is definitely my favourite out of what's left

Must admit, I am surprised to see Frankie rated as high as she is. I can't for the life of me even remember when she was last in 'Oaks, let alone what really interesting storyline's she's had in the past year

20 [NE] = Nathan Nightingale = 7.23% (Semi Final)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-X-X-20)

Kicking off the top 20 is the second highest new entry and the highest of the Nightingale clan. Nathan has had a fairly good debut and managed to make it through to the semi-final round before bowing out. The Nightingales as a whole haven’t made a big impression this year; but I think it’s difficult at times for new families to make an immediate positive impression. We’ve seen Nathan been involved in a fair few comedy storyline; most recently his friendship with Myra and with the Nightingale numbers swelling I think the programme will be pushing the family for some time… no doubt meaning more Nathan.

19 [08] = Robbie Roscoe = 8.20% (Semi Final)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-42-08-19)

Robbie takes a big fall down the rankings this year after an impressive climb into the top 10 last year. He is also no longer the highest ranked Roscoe; that accolade now belongs to Joe. When first introduced Robbie was a homophobic bully, however he has since mellowed a lot since then and been redeemed or his past actions (mainly by making Finn even worse). I think the character is a good one, however is currently saddled with a pointless love triangle storyline. No doubt this will come out shortly and there will be a continuing feud with Jason to look forward to

18 [27] = Joe Roscoe = 8.26% (Semi Final)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-29-27-18)

By contrast to Robbie’s drop, Joe takes a massive climb up the rankings and into the top 20 for the first time. He has actually climbed with each successive year which is a fairly good feet for any character. I originally felt the character of Joe was incredibly bland, but I think in some respects his normality is part of his charm especially contending with the growing number of murderers in the Village. He’s moved on (sort of) from Lindsey and onto Mercedes barring the one night stand which made Lindsey ‘pregnant’. Obviously though that’s a load of balls, however is something which is rumbling on along with the GHK storyline. No doubt when all the Lindsey stuff comes out, Joe will be at the forefront on a lot of it.

17 [25] = Patrick Blake = 8.31% (Semi Final)
(Ranking History = X-X-33-17-25-17)

Patrick rebounds back up the rankings this year in his final year, having been murdered by his granddaughter in the first few weeks of the year. The character I thought was good… to begin with, however like with a lot of problems in Hollyoaks over the last few years the storylines for Patrick were just so drawn out and lacked in conclusion. Similarly his exit storyline could’ve been excellent if played out right; however Kirkwood had to ruin it by making loopy Nico kill him off instead, undoing the good in the storyline for a bit of sensationalism. Still a good ranking for Patrick this year and his last outing… unless he comes back from the dead!
yohinnchild
15-02-2016
16 [NE] = Harry Thompson = 8.47% (Semi Final)
(Ranking History = X-X-X-X-X-16)

So the highest new entry this year goes to Harry Thompson a character who has been on the Hollyoaks radar for some time, but is now a fully fledged cast member. Last year the highest new entry was Celine (at 17). Harry seemed very marmite in the votes cast either coming top or bottom dependent on the voter. I like the character of Harry plus he is very easy on eye and likes to get his kit off which is always a bonus. We’ve seen him struggling with his sexuality and start a relationship with Ste (much to Tony’s shock) and be involved in the Cleo/ Pete storyline. I’m sure 2016 will see more Starry action which no doubt people will either love or hate.
