Before announcing the top 2 places just wanted to say 2 things; firstly thank you to all the voters this year and as the mods for keeping this in the main soap forum area (otherwise it would've died on its arse).

Secondly this will be my final year running the Favourite Hollyoaks Character; i've been doing it for SIX years now () and as I've taken up the running of the Eastenders one too, I can't really do both and I'm not the avid Hollyoaks viewer I once was. So thanks to everyone who has contributed over the years into making this a success.

Next year, Ownnn has kindly agreed to take over the running and so 2017 will see him take over the mantle in running the competition. So thanks to him for agreeing to take over, I know I will be leaving it in a safe pair of hands

Finishing in 2nd place is...

Taking the silver medal this year and re-entering after a years absence is Mercedes McQueen. This time last year she was off screen presumed dead and Jennifer Metcalf seemingly had left the show. However she returned and has now shacked up with Joe Roscoe and has clearly made a big impression upon her return. In the past she has reached the top 10 twice, her last appearance was her best to date placing her 7th favourite. This year however she was strong throughout the voting and finishes 25 points short of the winning spot. Mercedes is a long term character and one that I used to find frustrating in that she never really learned from her mistakes and was given the same storylines over and over again. However now I quite like her, maybe as I'm used to her and the quality of characters isn't as strong, but there is something good about Mercedes and the fact she doesn't take any crap. She is this years runner up... can she do one better next year?

Which means after 5 previous years placing within the top 6, Darren finally manages to climb up to become DS' Favourite Hollyoaks Character 2016!!! He is the only character never to drop out of the top 10 and his previous highest placing was 3rd place last year, however as can be seen he is the most consistently highest ranked Hollyoaks character and its good to see him finally manage to win the title. The Osbornes have dominated the voting this year and Jack, Nancy and off course Darren have won near enough every group they've been put in, so it was no real surprise to see him finish at the top. The final was voted for by 49 voters (one up from last year) and whilst it was a closely faught battle, Darren finishes a fair way in front of 2nd place. Darren Osborne is DS' Favourite Hollyoaks Character 2016!!!

So will Darren make it two years at the top, will someone climb to the top or a new character dislodge him? all will be revealed in Favourite Hollyoaks Character 2017; next year!!!!

Yay Darren is number 1.

Knew it Boo!!! Oh, well, can't argue with second place and it's her best ranking to date, so that's something, I suppose.

Thank you yohinnchild, for this year and the previous six. I always enjoy reading the little summaries you do for the characters. I am sad to see you're handing the mantel over, but excited to see Ownnn take it up next year.

Pretty happy with the top 5 and i'm delighted to see Darren and Mercedes where they are. They are probably my two favourite characters nowadays so that's a result for me. I wish tptb at Hollyoaks would take a look at this thread and realise what people like and don't like. Shame about Lockie, as well. I don't understand why he was axed, really. I hope he makes a comeback.

A few characters i would have liked to have been further down, and others further up. I would have preferred trevor to win as he has become a better character, while darren unfortunately has been mostly kirkwooded for me.

Thanks for this, a great top five and top two though I wish Mercedes had won. I'm annoyed that Harry and Nathan are highest newcomers wish it was Reenie. But it's been fun so I don't mind that much.

thank you for doing this for the last six years and thanks to Ownnn for taking it on. I find it interesting that the results aren't entirely what you would expect if you followed the daily thread and wonder how representative the thread really is

There was less overlap than I was expecting between people who voted and people who contribute to the daily threads.
