Hi folks, looking for help. I have a 15" Onn Lcd tv we used to use at our caravan untill the siad can met a 7ft wall of water! end of van! but we did managed to salvage somethings including this tv, it was on a bracket high on the wall so was well above the water line but the remotes for it and other devices were full of water and silt so we ditched them thinking they wouldn't work, now the old CRT tv, funny emough we bought for our first caravan 10yrs ago failed the other week so I sourced a remote from 'Remotesreplaced' I think or soemthing like that, so it came I fixed up the tv but it wouldn'r work with the new remote then it would come out of standby with it and nothing else! I have been in touch with the company and he advised to use my smart phone camera to check there was a signal coming from which it has, now the tv is a Onn TV A0 15BID and the remote I bought is a RRS41 that was matched to the model on their site. I now have managed to rig up a freeviewbox and scarted it to the tv and this works but there is a bit of buzzing owing to me having a pile of old remotes and trying to see if any would work it and one had a button that would only increase the volume! hence the buzzing! So can't tell if the tv has faulty infrared sensors or that this remote isn't paired correctly, waiting for the company to get back to me but it would be handy if I could source an original to see if that would work but not sure how to approach this, except go to my old van before it is removed and get the remote if it still works which I doubt very much so guys some ideas would be appreciated.



RRs41 for an Onn TV A0 15BID

I very much doubt the TV has a faulty IR sensor because if it did then the set wouldn't respond at all to any IR signals. Similarly, there's no "pairing" of a remote's IR emitter to a TV's IR receiver. These things are not Bluetooth devices lol

The reason why the TV isn't responding is that the RSS41 remote control doesn't have quite the correct code set. It is close, but not entirely correct. That's not too surprising though when you look at Onn as a brand. It is sold exclusively through ASDA stores. In fact it isn't a brand as such; there's no Onn factory with a Managing Director and R&D lab and production line. Onn is simply a badge stuck on TVs supplied by the lowest cost bidder from one of the faceless factories in China, Turkey or Eastern Europe that churn out Bush, Alba, Technika, Polaroid, Techwood, Hitachi, Toshiba, Hisense, Sharp, Seiki, etc. Because supply chops and changes with these type of TVs then support becomes more difficult. There's less traceability for support issues like this; it's doubtful ASDA knows what code set the TV is using, and even if they did there's no guarantee that whatever number the manufacturer has allocated actually tallies with the code set numbers used by the remote supplier.

The simple answer is to use a remote control with a broad range of IR code sets and make use of its search feature to check some codes. The most widely available of such remotes is the one used by Sky. There's plenty of online guides about programming the remote to help you do a manual search. If one of those isn't available then have a look at the URC range of remotes. URC has a huge database of remote codes, so even if you find a code that only partially works then you can keep searching for a better match.

Ok, I copied this into my reply to the seller and he has asked for it to be sent back so he can test it! Yes I'll wait and see, maybe given the fact their might be a wider discrepencty with codes among the same make or model a universal might be the way to go.

Ok. so waiting for the supplier to tell me there's nothing wrong with the returned set, I remembered that I had at least one Talktalk youview box unopened, one was delivered unsolicited and the second the wife agreed to some other deal, anyway dug out the remote looked on the net for instructions, they were for version 1, there were several codes but only one 2279 switched out of standbye but not off, gave up but looked at the instructions for version 2, codes 1314, 2062 & 0499 again brought it out of standby but not off but code 1770 brought it out and back on to standby! but no other function, I know u guys have said get a universal but until the seller gets back to me I'll try anything that comes to mind! so 1770 must be close should I reverse one and then one forward to see if that works?

Yes do this. Open it up and dry it thoroughly with tissues. Then leave the insides over a radiator for a few hours. Reassemble, new battery, and good luck.

Funny enough, going up to say goodbye to our flood stricken caravan this weekend as the insurance has settled and the council are removing all wrecked vans at no expense to ownnrs, ok we were covered by insurance with this but it means no more form filling and quite a lot of other owners there didn't have flood insurance so could or might find the old remote but it will have been sitting in damp conditions for about 2 months but you never know!

Well, got the mud off the keys and dried it out but no life, may try to take it apart and clean it from there.

Well low and behold! the 'Hoogie' sorry! thats what this family calls a remote, after getting it appart and doing a bit of what I could clean it now Lives!
