About 100+ yards to the green I took an 8 iron to pitch and run.
It was in a comp and my opponent had walked the long way to the green to leave his trolley at the next tee - around some large bushes, so he didn't see my shot.
It bounced nicely and then ran and ran until it hit the flag post audibly and fell in.
I whooped to my opponent "I just holed it" and he shouted back "Yes, I just bloody heard it! - let's move on!"

My first hole in one was on a par 4. 264 yards uphill, blind so I didnt see it go in. I ran back down the hill and jumped in a fairway bunker.

My best hole out was probably in our Club Championship final nearly 20 years ago. 3rd extra hole and my opponent was on in 2 around 25 feet away. Easy 4 at worst for him and I was 40 yards short and left in the rough playing my 3rd. Think you can guess what happened.

I've been scoring at the Open, was out in JB Holmes group yesterday afternoon. He doesn't worry about course management, just smashes driver as far as he can at every par 4/5.

my first, and only, hole in one was at a par 4 as well, i was 14 playing in a county schools event, thought i had lost my ball and was on my way back to the tee to play again when my partners shouted that my ball was in the hole

i had a hole out against me like that in a club championship game and boy did it hurt. i was the defending champion, playing against the guy who was the best player in our club in the semi-final, we were all square with 2 to go, i was on the green about 10 feet away in 2 and my opponent had missed the green and had a really difficult pitch, he holed it, i missed the putt, so instead of being one up playing the last i was one down

Possibly. I went out today at half eight. It was another attempt to conquer Silverstone. Total failure. Scraped round in 105 including three holes in the middle where my swing completely deserted me (shanks, hooks and couldn't even hit a long hybrid off a tee). I nearly packed it in after the 9th but on the 10th my swing more or less came back so I slogged it through.

I'm off work this week and was going to play golf every day but after playing sat, sun, mon and today I think it'd be better to give tomorrow a miss.

Today's golf was just awful.

I played my local 'park with flags' course on saturday. It was just me and it was extremely busy so I gave up waiting after the 4th and and went back to play the 1st. I made it to midway of the third before the combination of the heat and two shanked shots out of bounds suggested to me that it was time to walk off. I was so dehydrated I went straight to the nearest shop and downed a bottle of juice before even paying.

I hit 55 at my local proper course earlier in the week so that was a return to form of sorts.

I've been all over the place the last week or so.

I had a good game at my home course on Monday but got caught out by a few normally safe holes because I was hitting so much longer. On two par fours at the front I usually just drive then wedge in from 100 yards. In both cases my drive left me 60 yards from the pin and suddenly I'm stuck in 'no man's land' with nothing in my repertoire to tackle it :-/ It was interesting that I scored about the same front and back. I reckon the increased distances were helping me on the longer back where I normally don't score so well.

I'm hoping it's just the heat. I am a warm blooded person (been in shorts since March) and I always have cold water in my flask even in winter. But today was quite shocking on the 5th, 6th and 7th at Silverstone. 5th is a short par 4 and I lost two balls (one off the tee into a pond in front - the other a shanked approach from 100 yards). Barely got my second tee shot to the fairway. 6th is a par 3 and I lost two balls off the tee then a third from a drop half way up the fairway. 7th is a longer 5 but I lost two more balls off the tee.

After that things got back to normal but I was seriously thinking about packing it in for the day after the 6th

I'm going out later, not quite as warm up here though. Just going to work on my short game for a bit although I have a Taylor Made M2 to try out so will give that a go as well.

Working at the Ladies Scottish Open this weekend, hopefully I'm scoring for Carly Booth's group. I should manage a few holes before a restraining order is required.

So do you literally work as a scorer for golfers? I always thought that they were suppose to score themselves?

Last week I was working for NBC, score the entire group and radio it back to the guys in the truck. I assume they then update their on screen leaderboards with the info. They also take scores from the official R&A scorer just so they have double verification of what's happened.

This week I'm doing it for the LET, I assume I'll have a palm pilot and also entering where they play all shot from, ie shot 2 fairway, shot 3 green, shot 4 green etc etc. If there are any on course digital scoreboards then they should auto update once scores are entered.

It's not my career though. Only doing this are both events are very local to me and I have a bit of spare time at the moment.

It was today.
Yesterday I played 18 holes for our "Vets" team and it was hard.
We started on 5 and when I got to 18 I had to go into the Pro shop to buy cold water for the next four holes.
Today was worse.
Started on 1, got to 10 - our "cardiac hill" and seriously thought we should go in.
I always have a cold water drink and a non fizzy Lucozade sport drink for a boost.
I learned today that water is always more refreshing.
In really hot weather the Lucozade gives you a short boost but water is consistently best.

That would make my day, my year even.

I played in a mixed foursomes a long time ago. My partner was a nice blonde who could also play a bit. At the last minute she had to cancel so I had to partner someone else whose partner couldnt make it. My new partner was a friends gran who was about 80 and played off 36. That was one of the most horrific 18 holes of my life.

i was quite lucky, my local course was just a minute or so walk from my house when i was growing up. i had a couple of cut down clubs when i was about 5, got my first half-set when i was 10 and was a member at my local club at 11. with that sort of upbringing it does make things alot easier. got my first proper handicap when i was 15 and never played off a handicap above single figures until i was forced to stop playing when i got my knee badly damaged in an accident.

People find enjoyment in different things.

Some people like golf. Some people like trolling internet forums with bullshit stories about their neighbours.

Different strokes for different folks and all that.

I don't have Carly's group.

However on Friday morning I do have Maria Verchenova's group. I'd never heard of her so googled her to see what she looked like. I feel like all my christmases have come at once.
