Sky+ app wont connect to network
Grayburn

Right, i've asked this on the Sky forum but have got nowhere so i thought i'd try you lovely lot.

Just switched to Virgin Media from BT and everything was fine with them with regards to the Sky+ wireless connector and the Sky+ app.

Since having Virgin installed this weekend myself and my wife cant connect to the planner via the app. Everything else works such as On demand etc etc and i get no FAIL in the network settings on the HD+ box.

I've pressed the WPS button on both boxes (Virgin HUB & Sky wireless connecter) and all the lights show as all good but still no access to the planner.

The only thing i haven't done is split the signal and make sure the sky box is on 2.4 or 5ghz as at the moment it's automatic.

Any help appreciated.

Rather than using WPS have you tried entering the WPA code from the Virgin router into your sky box and connecting manually?

The problem is with the app itself, as your box is connected to the internet (as you can access on-demand).

Have you tried deleting the app off of your phone and reinstalling it?

I have the Sky+ and it will find my wireless box almost straight away, but it takes a bit of time for it to find the box that is connected using the wireless connector, so perhaps you need to wait a bit longer to see if it detects your box.

Not tried that, I'll give it a go.

Weird thing is that it works fine on my iPad but not the phone.

Reinstalling doesn't help and the search times out every time.

Changing the IP address on the box to a static address solved my non-connecting app issues.

I had this problem recently. Doing a Planner Rebuild worked for me. Scroll down this page a bit to find out how to do it:

On the Sky remote press "services", Press right to move to "Settings" and press "Select". Press down and then right to move to "Network" and press "Select". Press the green button and then the blue button. The line "IP Address of this Sky box" will be highlighted, press left to delete the last number and then enter 245 (nothing magic about 245 it's just a number in the range that wont get allocated normally). Press green to save.

The box will now be using a static IP address. This is the only reliable fix I've found that works for me. You can reset the settings back to default if it doesn't work for you.

Had this problem and this was only thing that fixed it permanently. Noticed in my router log the box continuely tried to renew it's IP so then wouldn't get found by the app. Resetting the box by pulling the plug would fix it for a few days.

Don't know why sky even bother offering the app as must not really be working anyone due to this.

Well, after turning off automatic in the router settings I thought it would work if phone & Sky box were both on the same 2.4GHz network but that didn't work but having my phone on 5GHz and the box on 2.4 does but not all the time.

But I'll give your method a go Clatter, thanks for the explanation.
