Is the Humax TV portal down?

It was fine yesterday, but all of a sudden I received an error message saying it couldn't connect to the network. My YouView box is plugged into the same router (both by LAN cables) and it connects to BBC iPlayer with no problem at all.

I tried reconfiguring it via DHCP, but it just inserted a load of zeroes. I then tried manually with settings that had worked before, which then said network connected, but only resulted in the spinning wheel when I tried to open the portal. It just stopped, leaving no error message.

It made me wonder if Humax is having to do something to their iPlayer link to account for changes in BBC3, although I'm not really sure why it should be necessary. Is it affecting everyone or is it just my own setup?

Can't connect by FTP either.

Sounds like a problem on your network; have you tried power cycling the router?

If you mean pulling the power lead out, leaving it for 20 seconds and then plugging it in again, then yes. I remember this happening once before and on that occasion it was a problem at Humax.

Sorry - just edited this to say that I pulled the power lead out of the Humax recorder. Seeing as the iPlayer was connecting through my YouView box I assumed it wouldn't be the router that was at fault. When I try to get it to connect through DHCP it first inserts some strange addresses, then when I try again it clears all except the bottom line to zeroes.

Which sounds to me like a DHCP problem which suggests that either the router or the connection between the box and router is the cause of the problem. I have seen lots of cases over the years where a router gets confused over one device on the network whilst others carry on unaffected.

All is well. I unplugged the router as you suggested and left it for a couple of minutes. Then I unplugged the YouView box cable before switching it back on, just in case that was confusing it. After waiting for all the green lights to come on, I tried again and it connested first time, without me even having to go into the menu. I plugged in the YouView box and that also connected immediately. I can't think why this should happen but at least it's working again.

Glad it is now working for you. I have never bothered to investigate the cause but I have seen routers get confused often enough that when there is a symptom such as failing to issue a DHCP address then power cycling the router is the first thing I do.

It seems strange that it only affected the Humax machine when my YouView bax is plugged into one of the other sockets. It does seem to be a quirk with these Humax machines, so hopefully this will be of use to other owners.

I am sorry but I doubt it has anything to do with Humax. I have seen it happen with plenty of computers running both Windows and Linux. Routers sometimes get confused and often it only affects one port on the router.
