connecting a vcr to a hdd/dvdr so i can archive my old vhs?

hi all - so i can archive previously recorded vhs tapes to my new hdd, i'm trying to connect a vcr to a dvd recorder using the supplied red/white/yellow leads that came with the dvd recorder for just that use.

now the vcr does not have these red/white/yellow plug inputs, so i figured that by plugging one end of the red/white/yellow lead in to scart adapter & then plugging this into the video scart av1 out socket, it would work. the other end of the red/white/yellow lead i leave as it is & can plug straight into the av3 input of the dvd recorder without having to use a scart adapter.

i get no picture coming thru to av3 on the dvd recorder when i play a vcr tape i want to record from.

are there different types scart adapter plug thingies? i'm attempting to use one that came with an xbox which i though would work...but does not

any suggestions?

You need to make sure the SCART adaptor is either a switched version or an OUT one. SCART has provision for Composite video and stereo audio in both directions simoutaneously (or even at the same time! ).

This means you could connect two recorders together say and copy from either onto the other.

You need an adaptor like this or a lead like this.
