I still think a HG 612 paired with a proper wireless router is a better bet than the BT junk. Maybe the new one will be much better, but so far Hub 3, Hub 4 and Hub 5 have been utter rubbish in my experience.
If you think the BT HomeHub is bad I wonder what you think of the Sky Hub (SR102) that is still being sent out to new broadband customers? It's basically a circa 2009 router with a VDSL modem plonked inside. With the lack of gigabit ethernet and 5Ghz WiFi, it makes the BT HomeHub and Virgin SuperHub look spectacular.

I'm definitely not a fan of the old Sky Hub either. The new Sky Q hub is impressive.

You consider 2 ethernet ports impressive when the rest of the market has 4? Its taken them long enough to even get an AC router released, where as the rest of the market VM, BT, TT etc are leaving them behind by offering all that and more as a basic spec.

The new HH6 continues on that front, so no changes. Sky's routers are just shit and have been since they stopped using Netgear 6/7 years ago.

To be fair, though, I've had a HH5 since mid-2014 and, so far, it has been faultless.
I find the HH5 does a better job than my Apple TC.

The link only works if you were invited by BT to have the new hub.

The hub 6 is out this week anyway but only for infinity 2, 3 and 4 customers.

It comes bundled with wifi boosters in the form of a home hotspot kit to help with wifi blackspots in the home.

That's great news. I've been waiting a while for this.

Is there any information on the web about it? I cant find anything.

I'll stick with my HH5 then if its main improvement is boosting wifi, i get 75Mbit on my phone upstairs and as far away as is physically possible from it in my house (50's built semi), in fact i can connect to it when i am in my mates house next door but one and still get a reasonably good speed.

Ah, I only joined BT last week, and use my original TP-Link for wireless and just use the BT Hub for the fibre (Infinity 1).

I'm still using the old home hub 3 with the white Openreach modem.
I on at lest my 3rd Openreach modem the over 5 years I have been on Infinity.
I'm also using at lest 3 out of the 4 Ethernet ports on my Home Hub 3.
I have not had an email from BT about the new Home Hub 6.

Official launch is on June 16th:
http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/new...il_home_hub_6/

I'm sure everyone is very excited to learn about all the mediocre technology BT is packing into their new "smart" hub. I think most customers would be happier if the guts had better components that could maintain stable fibre connections and offer better wireless performance all the while driving around a lot of data without locking up at least once a day.

The HH5 is more advanced than the crap Sky sent me which wasn't even gigabit, let alone dual channel AC. Also, I don't know where you get your information from, but I moved to BT fibre 2 weeks ago and the connection hasn't dropped once, let alone the hub locking up.

Let me guess, there's one UK provider that offers such a router? Is their router named after a single letter of the alphabet?

Obviously your mileage may vary based on usage, but in my experience a HG 612 coupled with a decent wireless router does a much better overall job.

No. I think the current Sky Q Hub is very decent but it's certainly not exceptional. It's also possible the new HH6 will beat it. But based on the last three generations of the product, I'm not expecting to be surprised by BT. Sky are not the benchmark here. This is supposed to be BT's area of expertise. They need to be setting the high standards.

Thats how I use the HH5 actually - just for the fibre, with wireless being handled by my TP-Link AC router.

Yeah that definitely might help prevent the lock ups I've seen with them by offloading some of the data travel. I also tried what you are doing with the HH5 as the modem and an Airport Extreme as the wireless, and my parents were still getting line drops every few days. Replacing the HH5 with the HG 612 seems to have solved the problem, the line is staying connected and their line speed has improved too.

Also different exchanges can use different kit and software and some of that may not play as nice with the modem in the HH5. So local variance can be another reason for different experiences. So maybe the modem in the HG 612 is perfect for the exchange I'm hooked up to, and my parents too (who live about 20 miles away) but I guess it's possible the HH5 is very reliable for a customer connected elsewhere.

A lot of hot air in your post, I would love to elaborate on it, however I think people will be pleased yet not surprised. Its a case of if it ain't broke.........

I have HH4, HH5 Type A and Type B and I haven't run into any issues you have mentioned. IMHO the HH5B is the second best ISP provided router on the market, beaten by Virgin's SH2AC. My internet connection has been up for 18 days with no issues, prior to that it was 42 days. I have been testing new equipment recently.......which makes the connection even better.

You seem a bit of a stuck up snob quite frankly, the routers provided by TalkTalk, EE, BT and Virgin Media are of excellent quality. Its taken bloody sky 3-4 years to finally have a router which will allow users to take full advantage of their connection properly. The other thing, not everyone is as tech savvy as you, so having a double setup won't even interest them. The whole point of these routers is for them to just work. no fannying on, enter the wifi password boom, connect an ethernet cable boom.

Remember they are targeting these routers at the whole market rather than just trying to impress and keep you happy.

I agree must people wouldn't care about the problems I've mentioned. Even if their line was dropping once per day they would never notice it. The HH is fine for these people. It would probably be a waste buying higher quality kit.

My parents don't care either. I just saw the problem and fixed it for them because stuff like that annoys me and I can't not do something when I think I have a solution.
