I am sure they will take your order for an HH7 too. May take even longer to deliver though.

I placed an availability request (not an order!) ages ago and may well take it if comes free when I cancel BT TV later this month (to get a new retentions offer). I am mainly interested in getting more gigabit ethernet sockets though, for my home network., the one I have now isn't enough.

My HH3 + Openreach modem have been excellent for years so I will hang on to them just in case my new (if free) HH6 goes tits-up.

Why not just get a switch? Gigabit switches are insanely cheap now.

No. I think the current Sky Q Hub is very decent but it's certainly not exceptional.
.. and it's only available to those who take the new SkyQ TV service. Everyone else still gets the third-rate standard Sky router.

Cheap isn't free. And one device on the desk is less than three.

Personally I'd pay the tenner for a switch if it's of any use or importance, rather than waiting an indefinite period for a router that you may not get.

(also, if you need more than the four ports, you can't exactly use the minimalism excuse )

Picture of the new hub and the wifi boosters. The boosters are extra add ons and do not come free with the hub..

Available from bt now but only as an early adopter. You need to sign up to another 18 month contract. Any discounts on your account are wiped and you have to pay full price. Hub will be available to buy without affecting any discounts in a couple of months

Four ports is enough, but only one is gigabit, which isn't enough. I'll have to balance the extended contract and possible loss of discounts mentioned by the other poster, against the savings of a 'free' router. Threatening to cancel BT TV (or actually cancelling) may help as I am out of contract next month.

Was going to cost me £11 a month more due to me no longer getting a discount. I will just buy it outright in a few months for the £60 its going to cost

BIB which router are you referring to? HH6 has 4 Gigabit ports as per HH5A/B.

I will wait then and keep using the Home Hub 3 with Openreach modem. As I don't want to lose any discounts and im only just over 4 months into a new 12 months contract for Infinity 2 as well as BT TV.
Have never really had any problems with the Home Hub 3 but im on my 3rd Openreach modem in at lest 5 years of having Infinity.

I thought it strange that people here seemed to have info that the HH6 only has one Gigabit port given that would be a backwards step from the HH5.

Can the person who stated this explain why they thought this to be the case?

The official unveiling will be 20th June. The official launch date is 3rd July.

It's available now over the phone but only for Infinity 2 customer recontracting at full price (£32.50) for 18 months.

Nobody has stated that.

OR modem no longer required with HH5 onwards - you can either fit the OR Mk3 faceplate to master socket or use a couple of filters i.e. as you did on ADSL.

... the specification clearly suggests a powerful device, which features 7 antennas, a modern chipset (Broadcom 63137, 4366, 43602) and built-in filters that automatically block interference....

Specification for the BT Smart Hub
* Integrated ADSL2+ and VDSL2
* No. of antennae: 7
* Dual wi-fi bands with “next generation” 802.11ac spec
* 2.GHz wi-fi band (3×3 11b/g/n/ac) = up to 217Mbps
* 5GHz wi-fi band (4×4 11a/n/ac) = up to 1700Mbps
* Built-in Advanced Filters
* Connections: 4 x Gigabit Ethernet
* USB: 1 x v2.0 Port
* On/off light control: Yes (i.e. you can switch off or dim the hub lights)
* Removable password card: Yes
* Smart Wireless: Yes
* BT Smart Scan: Yes
* Built-in 4G filters: Yes
* Power Usage (11W fully loaded and 7W idle)
NOTE: Regarding the 4G filters, these protect the 2.4GHz wi-fi receiver against neighbouring signals above and below the wi-fi band which can desensitise or “deafen” a standard wi-fi chip. This is more of a protection against future deployments as these bands are not heavily occupied, yet.

Some more media coverage:

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/1379...for-the-future
http://www.trustedreviews.com/bt-smart-hub-review
http://www.seenit.co.uk/hands-on-the-new-bt-smart-hub/
http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/...art-hub-launch
http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2016/06/new...et-it-for-free

Initial impressions seem very positive with some big improvements quoted in WiFi speeds/coverage

The articles suggest that its free to recontracting BT Infinity users (and you can recontract again even if you have just done so) and "for those who prefer not to re-contract, with BT [are]offering them the chance to buy the Smart Hub for £50, ahead of an eventual retail price of around £130."
