The wise man also dies incredibly bored surrounded by his old tech.
How so? The wise men let's the unwise splash out with top prices and often lots of teething problems. Once price falls and product stable the wise man moves in with his cash. Still current but now cheaper and stable product - simples.

Make sure you buy AV2 ones with MIMO, the earth is also used then and they work much better on poorer wiring.
Thanks. My Smart Hub should be arriving today and if it doesn't sort the problem I will bear this mind if I buy any homeplugs in the future.

Installed the Hub 6 on Infinity 2, slight issue with wireless epson printer, but sorted, Use BT Flex 500 plugs and they connected instantly as did all the wireless items. The 5ghz signal does travel further and the 2.4ghz on laptop which used to reach 25megs upstairs now achieves 45megs. So first impressions, stronger and faster signals. Did notice the Hub 6 did take longer to connect in relation to my former home hub 4, so a bit longer wait for the blue light !

Thanks for the update. It's sounding good.

Can I ask was the printer problem specific to your setup? The the reason I ask is because I also have an Epson wireless printer and my smart hub will be arriving shortly.

Tried entering the new hub password using the buttons on the epson printer, which failed twice, so put original installation disc into laptop and reaching the point where it prompted me to progamme the password via the printer buttons, it worked. The disc then continued to connect the laptop to the printer, so I would suggest using the installation disc.

Did you change the ssid on the hub? I've just set mine up and when i changed the name to what it was on my old hub my ipad and laptop were not displaying the name correctly and would not connect. I solved the problem by a simple re-boot of the hub & everything works fine now.
Home hub manager looks a bit sleeker too.

Ah thanks. I decided to give the Smart hub the same settings as my previous hub so luckily everything appears to be working fine.

Very happy so far. A speedtest in the living room used to register between 25Mbps and 30Mbps on my iPad with the HH4. Now I'm getting a consistent 74Mbps.

I installed my HH6 on Infinity 2 last night without any issues and speedtested the WiFi on my mobile. i used to get 30meg max but last night topped out at 79.4meg so i'm now getting the full wack... PS4 is not though but i don't think that supports N ( i think thats the fast WiFi) but it still connected at 49meg, which is faster than before.

Have just wangled an HH6 for £57 including delivery, paid for by an extra £5 pm of discounts on top of the £15 pm Infinity 2/TV discounts and doubling of my free BT mobile minutes I'd already had agreed for my BT TV cancellation threat (I meant it too). All done for 12 month contract renewals after I said I didn't like 18 months ones.

Decent deals are there to be had, peoples. Decent BT advisor too, well done him.

You can just order it now and add it to your next bill or pay for it upfront.

Interesting how BT claim that the new HH6 is 'super reliable'. Given that it's a new product, that's a bit of a bold statement, isn't it?

It's an extremely bold claim given how super unreliable all of BT's previous incarnations of the Home Hub have been.

I asked about that in the middle of my recent contact negotiation after I cancelled. I wanted it free but no deal - however, they offered an extra £5-odd pm discount on the broadband to pay for it.

The Smart Hub isnt going to fall lower than £50 and you are not going to be able to buy a router with its features (when we are talking purely about performance) for £50 at any time in the foreseeable.

so not simple at all unfortunately.

I have discounts on my account already, buying one from the BT products and service page is probably the best way to make sure no negative impact is made on your account.

BT have made no such claim that it is super reliable.

They say "it's designed to give super-reliable wi-fi signals"

There is a big difference between saying it is super reliable and its been designed to be super reliable.

How many BT hubs have you had then? I thought you were a staunch Sky man.
Mine have been fault free.

There was no negative impact on my account, only a positive impact! As explained.

Have now set up the HH6 and apart from being unable to connect to the home hub itself in Windows 8.1 (via W7 is fine), I'm happy with it. My daughter's old low-spec tablet wifi-speedtested at 19Mbps but now speedtests at 46Mbps at the default setting. My ethernet download speed is the same at 72.5Mbps but uploads have increased from 17 Mbps to 19.0 Mbps, which is, I believe, at or very close to maximum data rate attainable.

So apart from the apparent hub connection bug on some ethernet systems (others have reported it too) I'm happy with the improvement over my old HH3 setup.

And lots of other people ended up paying £50 for the Smart Hub providing they agreed to pay the full £32.50 for infinity 2 so there is no need for you to get shirty really, there are plenty of examples of this if you read around the various forums.

As i explained i already have a discount on my line, i get infinity 2 for £19.50 so why on gods earth would i want to ring them up and risk that?

Well I received and installed my smart hub yesterday. Connected all of my equipment, it's done nothing but drop my iPad, my Panasonic tv etc etc. Spoke to bt who are looking at the issue. Put my old HH5 back on and no probs, it's rock solid as its been since I got it. Smart Hub, piece of plastic tat, it's going back and I'm getting my £50 refunded

Not getting shirty, I know all that, I had the same "lose all your discount" offer myself from them. Decided that I would only take HH6 if I could get it free, which in effect I did.

My point is a general one, i.e. that if you are out of contract or nearing the end of contract, cancel or threaten to, get their offer and then at the end, throw HH6 in as a curve ball - that seemed to trigger immediately an offer of an extra discount to pay for it. Thought that was worth mentioning, it may be useful for some to know. I even told him it was just BT TV I would cancel, didn't have to threaten to jump broadband ship.

Seems odd then that given you knew all that you wasted everyone's time by questioning what i had posted knowing full well what i said was not only correct but fair advice.

Very happy with the Smart Hub, its got the best 2.4Ghz performance i have i seen on my network.

As ever these speeds are from the HH which sits asgainst the middle wall of our 3 bedroom semi to the PC which sits against the outside wall in the next room through a brick wall.

2.4GHz http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5459075242

5GHz http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5459079225

You're seeing demons where there are none. I was just pointing out in general terms that there are alternatives available, depending on individual contract circumstances. For some, the HH6 can be had essentially for free, in spite of what their email offers say, and I have explained how to do it.
