Ive had the new hub 2 weeks and it's worked fine and faster . Today is first day it has reset . It does seem to take slightly longer to get up and running in comparison with the hub 4 .

Connected my Home Hub 6 yesterday and my speed test shows a slight improvement on the Home Hub 5.

With Home Hub 5, I was downloading at 73.21Mbps and the line IP profile was set at 76.32Mbps.

Home Hub 6 is giving me a download speed of 74.94Mbps and the line IP profile has also increased to 77.42Mbps.

The only other change I made at the time of the Home Hub changeover, was to use a shorter line cord than the one supplied. My cord length from the Openreach Master socket to router is now only 30cm instead of the 3 metre cord that was supplied with the Home Hub 5!

Have they enabled the USB port on the HH6 so it can read usb sticks or external HDD and be available over your network ?

The speed certainly seems to be very consistent.

I've never known the needle on Speedtest to be so steady. It's great to see it shoot off the scale.

My test result.

I stand by my experience of dropped wifi, something I never had with my hh5 which was very very stable. HH6, plastic tat being pushed by bt. If they can't sought it my bb will go and move to virgin for Internet only as they have recently cabled up my street.

I don't think the smart hub will increase your speed very much as it's your line stats that governs your speed. The new hub is mainly meant to increase wi-fi range & stability.

On ethernet it's about the same as my HH3 on downloads - though seems a more stable speed. But uploads are the fastest I have ever seen, 19.02Mbps just now and I have never even seen 18Mbps previously. Wifi is 2.5 times faster on a low spec tablet I have (46Mbps down vs. 19Mbps down).

Still can't log on to the hub via Windows 8 though, I have to reboot into Windows 7. Odd.

The IP profile of the line increased to 77.42Mbps when I connected the HH6.

A new router could use a different modem chipset / have a slightly better modem design that could eke out a bit more speed.

I believe that some HH5s had problems with G.INP. Maybe the OP had one of these? When G.INP was turned on my line I got a 10Mbps boost

In the ADSL days I went from a router with a much older ADSL chipset to a modern one, and got an extra couple of Mbps (it actually went to the 8Mbps maximum)

HH5A did have issues, however as I have said in the past it was rectified through a firmware update.

HH5B worked from the outset, was able to manage up and down G.INP with little issue, in spite of the fact G.INP is now enabled on downstream only.

It may be that some users did not get that firmware update.

What percentage would that be do you think? Given the router polls the servers every night for an update its highly unlikely for them not to be on the latest.

We had this discussion over 12 months ago if I remember rightly, and I said the same to you then, those issues were fixed via firmware updates. At that time I was running an HH5A and HH5B side by side, so I could experience them both in realtime.

The extra antenna on the 2.4GHz side has certainly made the 2.4GHz WiFi faster here.

My HH4 and both HH5s could max out my connection when connected to the 5GHz side of things but the 2.4GHz side would always be between 30Mbit and 50Mbit if the wind was in the right direction.

The Smart Hub all but maxes out my connection over 2.4Ghz now http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5463499044

A quick google suggests that there are people whose HH5As still do not have the update (as late as a month or two ago), so it's certainly plausible.

BT sent me a replacement for my current hh6 which constantly dropped wifi connections, had the replacement connected now for 3 hours and it appears to be stable, keeping my fingers crossed

Is it worth upgrading from the HH5 to this for the £50 charge BT want?

Very happy with the Smart Hub, its got the best 2.4Ghz performance i have i seen on my network.

As ever these speeds are from the HH which sits asgainst the middle wall of our 3 bedroom semi to the PC which sits against the outside wall in the next room through a brick wall.

2.4GHz http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5459075242

5GHz http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5459079225
How did you do the two tests on the different frequencies?

The Smart Hub isnt going to fall lower than £50 and you are not going to be able to buy a router with its features (when we are talking purely about performance) for £50 at any time in the foreseeable.

so not simple at all unfortunately.
Would they ask for the HH5 back which I got free last year if I bought the HH6?

Just thinking I could sell the HH5 to pay for some of this.

I selected the 2.4GHz SSID and did a test and then i selected the 5GHz SSID and did another test.

For those that have the new smart hub are you using a single SSID or are you making the 5ghz separate?

Default settings (whatever they are). Same download speeds as HH3 on ethernet, better upload speeds (17 => 19Mbps), very much better downloads on wifi (19 => 45 Mbps), very very very very very much better on home network due to all sockets being gigabit. Well worth it for anyone still on HH3, otherwise I can't say.
