Iplayer on Now TV through Apple TV ?

Hello all,

Sorry to ask a really newbie question but I want to watch iplayer on my TV in the front room. We have the old Apple TV set top box and we watch Netflix on there but I notice it has the Now TV service on there too. Can we watch iplayer through Now TV on the Apple TV service? I know iplayer is available on the NEW Apple TV bocbut I don't want to spend 129 pounds if I can help it. Thanks for any suggestions! At the mall meant we stream iplayer from our IPad through AirPlay to the TB but it's not stable and iPad needs charging up beforehand.

No now TV the service dose not carry iPlayer the £15 now TV box dose have it but it's a separate app from the BBC. I'm taking it you don't have any consoles or TV services from sky/VM/BT/TT so on (guessing your using internal freeview). All of these devices would have access to iPlayer

AirPlay is the best way with the old Apple TV, unfortunately. I agree it's not always terribly stable. A £15 NowTV box would do the trick if you don't fancy shelling out for a new generation Apple TV (no subscription required for the free stuff, inc iPlayer).

Thanks both of you. I have bought a NOW TV box just now. Looking forward to it arriving and quite interested in the entertainment package for future viewing

If you ditch the old Apple TV box and replace it with Now TV can you still stream from an IPad with any sort of app or is the Now TV internet only?

I'm going to keep the AppleTV box too as I suspect that you can only AirPlay to stream from iPad and there is no AirPlay on Now TB box. Also I can access Netflix and iTunes from the Apple TV. I have enough HDMI slots at the back of my television.

I'm not familiar with Apple devices but you can install plex on nowtv boxes.

If you can get hold of a safe version of Plex's Roku app in APK form you can sideload it on. Sideloading onto the Now TV box is really easy, but there are only two minor catches:

1) You can only sideload one app, whatever this is, you can't add more (but you can replace it with something else).

2) There are squat good APKs out there. Plex is one, TVPlayer is another.

There is a guide as part of the Now TV review here (hit the sideloading tab) and it includes a link to some Plex builds that may work as you like.

There is a now TV app on the older apple TV. You do not need a Now TV box to watch now tv on the older apple TV. As for the BBC iplayer you can watch it but only via airplay from another iOS device like an iPhone or iPad or iPod touch. You can also airplay from a mac if you have one.
