Just returning to this thread after many years. There seemed to be more posters and personalities back then, such as the guy who purported to be some kind of professional protester and another who always referred to James O'Brien as "N.O'Brain".

It used to be a lot of fun on here, laughing about what Steve Allen (or "Svallen*) had been saying and his band of telephone guests who we dubbed "The Sillies". Happy Days.

Nothing stays the same i suppose.

Plenty of women like to wear high heels occasionally anyway out of choice, so its a bit rich for some others to claim they're a safety hazard. Its just another case of some inadequate attempting to claim victimhood (oh, and she's a "resting" actress - publicity!) which is then unsurprisingly jumped on by the usual identity politics feminazis with their usual BS patriachal oppression type arguments. *yawn*

You're lucky to have been away! A handful of us 'old guard' struggle on, hoping to have a laugh, any attempt at humour being met with boot-faced silence or reminders to stay on topic. I'm tempted to go over to the talkRADIO thread and slag off Iain Lee, just like the old days on here. That was always good for a laugh.

Well, Vallen is now on an endless loop of nastiness and spitefulness as he always has been, I suppose but in the earlier days he had his 'friends' to dilute it, providing he let them get a word in edgeways.

Cam across a short letter in the Sunday Times you say feature in the Sunday Times culture magazine.

Author said she had stopped listening to LBC because of its Left Wing Presenters.

I think Boots still do free hearing tests, don't they?

When Ferrari was discussing the changes happening with the BBC, he said 'our' station is subject to Ofcom rules if bias is shown. I was a little surprised after reading posters opinions on here and, taking into account we all hear 'what we want to hear'. Ergo, I can only think the presenters throughout the day provide both right and left-wing views which prevents any infringements.

Ofcom rules are a minefield of variable interpretation and as far as political bias is concerned I believe that only comes into play during a purdah period. That's why for most of the last year Nigel Farage has had his phone in regularly without equal time been given to air the opposing view.
Nothing to stop LBC putting on air presenters with right wing or indeed left wing views 24 hours a day if they chose to do so.

Nick was talking in general terms unrelated to the purdah period. BTW, regarding his radio persona, (which all presenters adopt!) he's no fan of Farage, (on the face of it) with what he said this morning. I think most are a little aware of Nige's arrogance which callers had the freedom to state.
Please n.b.,TPTB at LBC very much dictate the pace, consequently presenters will act accordingly.

Didn't hear what NF said regarding ofcom which covers more than bias. Decency and libel also are ofcom issues which of course any radio station would try and adhere to. NF could hardly say anything other than LBC followed ofcom rules.

BiB. To quote your comment "NF could 'hardly' say....." He was speaking spontaneously without pressure to bear, there's a subtle difference and, he's no lapdog.

Every radio presenter has to stay within ofcom or they won't last long. What is so special about what NF said? To me he was stating the obvious, that LBC operates within the rules.

Perhaps you're in need of a NF, and Farage detox.

Tell you something. Cannot wait for the referendum to be done, no matter the result.
When we have Brexit The Movie then things have gone very surreal.
BTW did you see JOB on Newsnight sporting a rather smarts it?

I don't know if it was just that I was more awake than usual (or perhaps less) but Fanny's show seemed even more chaotic than usual this morning.

I don't think he completed a single cogent thought without shooting off at a tangent. His review of the papers seemed to be mostly just naming people without even explaining the story. There was a bit where he was telling us about a film (I think) but apart from saying how marvellous it was and how "this and that" happened he didn't tell us anything about it because he didn't want to spoil it. We had a short break while he declared his love for someone passing the studio door. He read out a few inconsequential texts.

Oh I almost forgot, he did get it together long enough to give us a potted life story of Bob Grant (Jack Hawkins in On The Buses). That was quite lucid. What a pity that sort of information isn't written down somewhere - the internet would be ideal for this sort of thing.

I listened to the last 30 minutes of the show this morning and heard that too. I wonder what prompted Steve to go into this quite long account of Bob Grant's life, Bob sadly committed suicide back in 2003.

Footnote: Being curious I went online and read the Wiki entry regarding Bob, this is what Steve read out practically line for line this morning. Still would like to know what it was that started Steve off on this subject.

He's probably been watching his boxed set of On the Buses again.

Morning all.
