when andrew castle was sacked the first time, i thought lbc was wrong, but now after listening to his return i think that man who fired him was right. andrew castle is very boring and if i may say so he does not come across the airwaves as an intelligent man. rather the opposite in fact. he fumbles his way through the show he presents, buttering callers and guests up not end. he is actually useless a very lucky to have that job but i dont think he will have it by the end of the year. he is so boring i switched him off. will not listen again to him.

He seems much more animated, today.....However, he is not a controversial presenter.

Interesting to hear that he is now a renter, having sold his London home.

Happy Sunday to All x

I wonder if James O'Brien has pre-ordered his copy of this book yet?

I agree with you, CC - he sounds fine to me, introducing important topics and looking at both sides, with a good balance of 'experts' (or experienced public figures) and regular callers. Plus, he listens to people, which is always a good thing.
Listening to Cristo in the early hours, he mentioned in passing that he used to read this thread on Digital Spy while we were talking about him. Once we stopped talking about him, he stopped reading and found it 'boring'. He's probably one of the most self-centred and self-referential people I've heard, possibly with the exception of Steve Allen. What an odd couple they are.
Happy Sunday to you too!

I didn't care for him when he was on previously but I'm enjoying his current stint. I think he's just renting until he finds another house.

Morning all.

Cristo reads the LBC FB forum, as does Iain. They occasionally reply to comments about themselves. There are several on FB but I like this one. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2219466465/ It's friendly without too much squabbling!

Thanks, g-s. I would consider joining, but then I'd have to give my real name. You know what happens next!

No, what? I use my real name and my sojourn on there has been uneventful. I rarely visit my own site; I only set it up so I could join a couple of groups.

I've often thought that he moulds himself on Allen.
When he gets a message which finds fault with what he has said, he has started to say that the listener must be ill or worse. Katie Hopkins could teach both of them a thing or two. Like her or loathe her, she is polite to her listeners and actually has a lot of common sense.

I listened to Andrew Castle last Sunday where he'd upped his game from his age-old lifeless style, and was pleasantly surprised. With a bit of conscious awareness let's hope he retains some enthusiasm, otherwise 'us' listeners might as well put plastic bags over our ears.

Isn't he just another ex sportsman turned presenter who's ended up on TV and radio?

Never been a fan of these types, if you've ever watched match of the day or heard any of talksport's output (which I try to avoid) then you might know what I mean, I find them to be extremely dull. They might be good with a ball but it don't make them able to host a show.

I too have switched him off and have no intention of listening to him again.

Why......I can't put my finger on it but nothing he says actually encourages me to remain a listener

Katie Hopkins can be a tower of strength, but, she cuts her cloth accordingly. On LBC she's reasonable because her act has evidently been dumbed-down for broadcasting purposes, apropos of LBC's regulations. Unforgotten though are her online scummy remarks, which are more than just controversial, for which she lines her purse.
I'm not a mega detractor of hers, can't be bothered, just aware that she overcomes any moral boundaries for the want of banking big fat pay cheques.

Well I certainly find him far more interesting than when he was on last time. He seems knowledgeable about the topics he discusses, and listens to his callers, and will argue with them, without talking over them or cutting them off

Wow! Nick is talking to the legend that is Mike Godwin, who formulated Godwin's Law. There's a lot of it about at the moment, especially from former Mayors of London.

Morning all.

Sorry to hear Natalie Bennett is stepping down as leader of the Greens. She's always good for a giggle even when she hasn't got a cold!

She is an interesting radio listen, though, Cayce { IMO} & manages not to interrupt callers, even when they are criticising her

On Tom's topic, yesterday, about the rights & wrongs of a certain, current ITV drama, based on a real life double murder. Surely, whilst suggesting that we should switch off - he was inadvertently advertising it !!

I don't know how much more referendum talk, I can take

Happy Monday to you All x

Agree with much of this. She is on LBC solely because of her horrible comments in the media. Have to admire her PR company, they have made a troll a lot of cash.

James O'Brien, so RUDE to callers, thinks by using big words he's better than them, so vain, what an ego.

Was that the first caller Steven? The caller who didn't want to answer the question but wanted JOB to answer his unfathomable question instead.

I know it is very petty of me, but every weekday morning I derive a feeling of great power and pleasure when I press that button on my radio at 10:05 to switch from LBC (JOB) to Talk Radio (JHB).
In the old days I had to try and get thro the 15 mins of gobbledygook monologue with the hope of getting an occasional caller, usually gave up and went to Radio 4 with Woman's Hour (not good), but no more.
JHB a bit short of spontaneous callers but she still finds interesting people to talk to, and no 15 min monologues.
(one disadvantage of Talk Radio is regular "sport" reports, LBC is more or less "sport free" which is unusual in this day and age)

Indeed, he is - rude, that is. He, also, thinks that he is a superior wordsmith, is very vain & does have a gigantic ego.

Don't you know that he is middle- class & has a few bob in the bank Methinks that his attitude stems from an inferiority complex.

How long did he spout on about Boris, today ?? Any excuse to denigrate him - probably, because of his superior intellect.

To be fair, though - When he is good, he is very, very good......

Perhaps it's possible? It works out to [very roughly] £10,000 a week for six shows and one In Conversation, Steve is a freelance employee so it's just his fees that are paid to him, therefore no pension, no health insurance, no expense account and any other "perk" of a salaried employee. Just my take of course.

Seem to remember that when George Galloway was on TalkSport and was a MP, he put in his outside payments £250,000 a year payment for his radio work. He was doing two three hours shows.
