The Queen must have had the longest birthday celebrations in human history!

She must have been 90 at least four times this year already!

The ironic thing is, Philip was actually 95 yesterday, yet that was almost glossed over.

You couldn't make it up. Absolute gem of a moment. Had me spluttering into my cornflakes. I doubt it'll be on the podcast.”

Roughly what time was it, and I will listen to the podcast later.

Was the person in prison, a former Australian painter ?

He probably deserved some abuse.

Indeed, who can forget MA. And yet some will still have it, he was just 'a coward' in refusing to be enlisted in going to war with Vietnam rather than listen to the passionate reasons he gave for not signing up. The spectacle of a boxer and a world champion at that, was shy of such conflict is unbelievable when a boxer's life is under threat when entering the ring anyway. Many, many have lost their lives between the ropes or suffered lifelong injuries.

PS. I'm probably having a dig at poster Mr_Boltar who's currently on gardening leave , but when he's reinstated he can come back at me.

And it's a wow from me too. Have loved most of Rods music all my life and have seen him live from Vegas to Rome.

Ali was probably more influential in America than the UK, given the differences in demography, civil rights etc.

Quid Pro Quo. Nothing new about that.

Yes it was Martin, a famous one in their eighties currently doing five years.

It was on just before 08:00am I think. It was so funny because the caller (Kevin) I think, sounded so genuine. It wasn't like he was deliberately trying to sensationalise. I don't think he'd have even named the celebrity if he hadn't been asked. I hope someone else heard this to back me up.

Yes, you're right, Nosedive. AC freaked out and didn't know how to handle it.
I would expect it to be excised from the podcast.

Thanks Charlie. Well guess what. I've just played the podacst back and it IS on there!!

Go to 42:23" in. It's Kevin from Hampstead talking about what a drain on money the royals are. It follows the call from Thomas in Rochester talking about Buckingahm Palace being a tourist attraction.

This is an absolute classic. One for youtube maybe.

To be honest I just didn't understand the point of trying to compare the two and particular the need to denigrate Ali's character while his funeral was still going on - unless it was simply to generate a response. In which case it was extremely stupid and in bad taste.

All agreed, The Moth. It was an off-the-cuff remark early in the show and a bizarre and unnecessary comparison. From then on, the rest of NA's show was pretty much entirely made up of 'tired-and-emotional' callers responding to this.
I really get the impression that, increasingly, NA is just going through the motions. But hey - it all goes towards paying the mortgage, I suppose. It's a shame, coz he ain't daft - just lazy and mind-numbingly repetitive, with some rather odd opinions.

Yes Cristo said last weekend there was a family bereavement and Olly Mann stood in at short notice. Then this weekend he was going to be on holiday. Don't usually hear much of his show, but heard that at the end.

I just don't get Nick Abbott. He really irritates me, or is that his intention? I save podcasts to listen to when he is on, but they seemed behind last night.

It was him & it was ludicrous.

He's entitled to his opinion about Ali, but trying to bring Bowie into it was so stupid.

His obsession with Bowie is clouding his judgement.

From now on, I suppose the coverage of any celebrity death will now be compared to the coverage that Bowie got.

I'm now doubly hoping that nobody else famous & talented passes in 2016, otherwise Abbott's show is going to be painful listening.

I usually like Nick Abbot but he has been coming across as rather crabby just lately and it has been getting up my nose a bit. He bangs on about voting and the referendum but complains that the callers want to talk about these things. This seems to be because he is a remainian and the calls are mostly from brexiteers who want a bonfire of the EU passports and who refuse to surrender to totalitarian bureaucrats. Then his crabbiness starts to attract some trolls and pranksters who want to have a pop at him and that might be funny in parts, but most of the time he doesn't have the bottle to let them stay on for long enough to generate any lulz.

A good analysis, Oscar.
Ah well, looking on the bright side, with our representative ambassadors proudly flying the flag in Marseille, um...

It's the old classic cliché about comparing apples and oranges. I'm sure Ali beat Bowie hands down when it came to influencing opinion about civil rights and boxing but he didn't do much to innovate rock music.

Can anybody tell me what was going on in the early part of the afternoon today? Were LBC allowing Foggerty to be in close proximity to the royal horses? If so that was a highly irresponsible act which risked a serious equine startling incident at a significant national cultural event.

Switched on radio to hear Bev Turner mithering on her pet topic, parenting. The same old mumsnet stuff.
Why can't LBC find some half decent, interesting women presenters?

The next presenter up, Lucy Beresford, will be asking if porn is ruining your relationship?
I wonder Who on here will be tuning in then?
