This is IMO a prime example of hate speech from a UKIP member.
Now you can complain about the date or try and deflect somewhere else but you can't make it disappear as much as you'd like to.
Hope JOB continues to follow this line for it is about time that some face up to the possible consequences of their words and actions.”

There are many more ways of expressing spite and hatred than by advocating physical violence.

The discussion prompted by JOB was about hate rhetoric. IMO the link I posted was a prime example of this.
Polly Toynbee has never come remotely close to saying anything like that .

Did J O'B invent the notion of hate rhetoric? If so, it must something about him for thinking it. No wonder the airwaves have been polluted ever since.

You have a problem with JOB pointing out the hate pouring out of some of the right wing. Good. They have had too much of an easy ride on LBC and now that the real nasty underbelly is being exposed, those who lapped up the daily tirades against muslims, refugees, immigrants and "do gooders" are getting upset because the ones who shouted so loudly against those I mentioned are now being scrutinised and they don't much like the disinfectant of sunlight.

I'll stop you there, I don't have a problem with someone opposing right wing views. Why do you make assumptions? I just don't happen to think J O'B is the best, or the genuine article at countering/opposing right wing beliefs.

I make assumptions based on what I read on here.
Well JOB happens to be the presenter under discussion so doesn't really matter much if you think he is the best to oppose rw beliefs.
For the foreseeable future he is going to be the main voice at lbc doing this.

With your devotion, I hope J O'B has a moment to invite you to afternoon tea. Beetroot Brownies is one of Mrs O'Brien's favourites.

One of my favourites too!
Am off for some well earned kip and fair play to you for putting up with my postings. Sometimes I can be a wee bit enthusiastic but look on the bright side, at least it's a bit more diverse than saying that JOB sighs a lot

I thought they'd been enough gloom and doom after the MP's death. But oh no, Andrew Castle is putting the icing on the cake by discussing assisted dying, and on a Sunday morning. Clicky OFF.

James O'Brien had plenty of hate only on Friday. Yes the same man who only a week or so ago said there was too much hate around! He has no self-awareness.

Do you have a specific example?

No, of course he didn't. someone on facebook has put a montage of Daily Mail and Express headlines from the last few months, its very chilling. Unfortunately I'm not clever enough to make it into a link. All i can say is Muslims and migrants feature in every one.

Well, we can't be sure, can we. But then the same could be said about, for example, Nigel Farage. To some ,he's the affable bloke in the pub with a pint and a fag. But to many, thats just a front for the evil that lays behind. Again, we cannot be sure. My rule with all politicians and commentators is to take them all with a pinch of salt. BTW, if you don't know what a spacehopper is then you are obviously younger than i though!

Thanks G.F.M. I've never used a space hopper they weren't around in my day, but I know what they are now having googled. BTW, I'd like to see Farage on one!

Never used a space hopper, Cayce? You haven't lived.
They've been around for fifty years. These days you can buy adult sized ones.
Now there's an idea for a birthday/Christmas gift for the person who has everything!

Extract from Wiki.

"The horseshoe theory in political science asserts that rather than the far left and the far right being at opposite and opposing ends of a linear political continuum, they in fact closely resemble one another, much like the ends of a horseshoe. The theory is attributed to French writer Jean-Pierre Faye."”

Yes I have always believed that there is no real difference between far left and far right, they meet in the middle so to speak. I 'm glad Jean-Pierre Faye shares that opinion

No, they must have passed me by VQ. I used to hop around on a pogo stick.

The Slim And Slender Katie Hopkins usually allows people to speak even when they have opposing views to hers, but she did cut one caller short in the first hour because he was spouting bigotry. He was suggesting that people like him are superior to people who are not like him.

I heard that. I'm glad Katie called him out on it.

Made me chuckle. I felt he'd be happier chatting to J O'B.

Morning all.

Does anyone know whether Ken Livingstone's departure from his show with David Mellor has affected the listening figures for it? I know I've stopped listening. There was great chemistry between the two which is lacking with Michael Crick.

Hopkins should have done just a little research before she mouthed off about "lefties" campaigning yesterday.

Unfortunately you have a long wait ! The next set of RAJAR results are not due to be published until the beginning of August. However, you normally have to wait a year to see if there is a significant trend rather than a blip !

I am sure LBC do their own private surveys in between (known as dipsticks!), and if they notice a negative trend will adjust the output.

Personally I believe when there is a change, listeners who liked the previous presenter may boycott the replacement .. for awhile and then slowly come back !

Thanks Martin. Very helpful. Is that the end for Ken then? He's never coming back?

EDIT: Seems he got the boot, so no.
