Very much looking forward to seeing Julia on QT tonight, I hope her show is a huge success on the new station. A fine presenter and a helluva lady. She did a fine job on LBC and was a lot more lively than Snoozy Socialist Shelagh and her NHS show.

Obviously they are tweaking the sound of the station.”

I still remember when Ferrari was on question time about two years ago. That was worth a watch. It was just after Gideon's autumn statement and Ed Balls had got all red faced huffing and puffing in parliament.

I certainly think that they have finally realised Talk Radio may be a threat
There's already more lighter topics creeping in as already mentioned the last few days
Bring it on I say

The word that springs to mind (for me) with both JHB and PH is 'sanctimonious'.

I wonder if Mr Dale was having a sly dig at another LBC presenter?

"I haven't heard many people on this radio station have a go at the BBC for their actions," started Iain. "So let me do so right now."

Over the next few minutes, the LBC presenter took apart the Smith Report's findings on BBC bosses and how much they were to blame for Jimmy Savile's decades of abuse.

"I'm not going to call in question Dame Janet Smith's integrity, but I do call into question her main conclusion...that the BBC has no corporate culpability for what Jimmy Savile got away with."

Iain railed against those findings: "Not a single BBC manager had the balls to confront the issue head on. They can't be held responsible because many of them are now dead."

The saddest thing about all this is that it's not just the BBC...it's them today to be bashed but people in the NHS could have exposed him as well and others.

I work with children and it's very clear that abuse still goes on today....hope you all read about what happened in Rotherham...just terrible.

Also it brings up other issues like the death of jill dando who apparantly knew of JS...why was she not listened to with her evidence....

No as ever this is just apart of things...most will never come out.

I have also been involved in the running industry for over 35 years...it was an open secret that he never ran the entire race of all those marathons towards the end of his running career but as a fund raiser his involvement was so huge. It was more important that he was there not if he actually ran the whole thing.

Just another example of the "lance Armstrong" excuse.

Excellent point re: Jill Dando.

Ian Collins is going for the Savile jugular tonight at 10pm tonight. Absolutely essential listening. What's the betting that BBC Brian gets a mention?

IC is rapidly becoming appointment to listen radio on LBC. Sparkling broadcasting the vast majority of the time. He won't pull any punches tonight!

Absolutely. I'm not always aligned with a lot of his politics but he is an extremely talented and unique broadcaster.

Had James O'Brien not taken a call in the first quarter of an hour he would be criticised.

The highlight of that hour was the inciteful caller from Doncaster who talked about a Radio 1 script from the 1960s and how people reacted to it that day.

Thanks, I'll record it. Do you know if the programme is live? If so, that's pretty late for Nick when he has to get up very early the next morning for the breakfast show.

Some of the clips are on Youtube. He's a fantastic guest and he's ripped apart quite a number of politicians on that programme!

Yes Chief_Wiggum I was wondering that too? I know Question Time is prerecorded but do not know about This Week. Nick is usually very good on such programmes speaking up for the ordinary person rather than the so-called elite.

She only ever had a few topics: immigrants, East Europeans, benefit claimants, Muslims. That's it.

That said she does fit well wih Brexiters alongside David Icke, Farage, Galloway etc

I have never found anyone in the 1-4 slot a good listen, maybe it is just me the same with "Scores" the Saturday afternoon show.

Here be dragons, as far as I am concerned....

I didn't hear her very often but when I did it always seemed to be about children, education or something similarly mumsy. I remember thinking perhaps that's what they think women presenters should talk about in the afternoon show.
Now it seems to be the NHS.

Ditto, I feel the same. JHB left me frazzled with her excitable gabbling and domineering ways. Shelagh drones on about the NHS continuously, sending some of us comatose practically. Why can't a decent female presenter be found?

Why do we have to have a female presenter in that slot? It harks back to the good old days when ladeez did their shopping in the morning and settled down in the afternoon to listen to Woman's Hour while they did the ironing and got hubby's dinner.

Morning all.

Did Fanny Allen really dedicate the whole of this morning's show to the Saville Report; attacking the BBC (obviously), Dame Janet Smith and even Claire McAlpine, the poor child who killed herself and defending "in the business" Tony Blackburn?

He ranted about it for the first 35 minutes after which I fell asleep but was still in full flow when the alarm woke me at 5.55 and continued for the rest of the show. In fact, the last half hour could easily have been a repeat of the first half hour.

I don't know if he hadn't bothered to read the news stories about why Blackburn had been sacked or that, as usual, he was simply incapable of understanding the facts but his constant bleating that Blackburn hadn't "even been charged with anything", stories from "in the business" about young girls that dress older than their age and throw themselves at unwitting DJs and assertions that Claire McAlpine's family must make her diaries public to explain the situation were typically nonsensical and missed the point.

Fanny's brand of ignorant diatribe may arguably be entertaining when it is directed at the world of show business but he really should be directed away from anything serious.

Well 'we' don't necessarily need a female presenter in the slot but, LBC seems to like schedule one in the afternoons. What amazes me is the lack of decent female presenters in the first place, are they a rarity?
