Surely, there must be someone else who will admit to listening ? Or, shall we continue with our lofty Brexit discussions

Thumbs up for Katie, today !”

Best not Some fantasies are better in the mind & not on the page

Besides, I quite like our little thread & don't want to be abruptly ejected by the mods.

Where is Martin ? He must be away. He usually has a nose for such things.....Perhaps, he is, at this very moment, catching up with her podcast

Probably, a more pleasurable alternative

UN population figures 2015.

Switzerland pop - 8.24m. Singapore pop - 5.62m. Dubai pop - 2.52m, Bahrein pop - 1.36m, Saudi Arabia pop 29.90m......UK pop - 63.84m and rising fast.

I am sorry, I fail to understand the point of your reply. Are you supporting my view that the UK is nothing like Switzerland, Norway , Liechtenstein etc ?

Sorry, I don't understand this either. The point is that Switzerland has had to accept , for example, freedom of movement to retain access to the single market. This from a country that was not even part of the UN until 2002.

And it did not do so because of some high-minded ideal: the alternative would have been to accept more 'guest' workers from, say, Turkey, or to accept yet more citizenship application requests , both of which had met with resistance from right wing groups.

You never mentioned Liechenstein or Norway in your previous post

My point is the countries you did mention have significantly lower populations than us and so don't suffer the numbers that are causing our services and infrastructure to buckle under the sheer weight and rapid expansion of the UK poulation. Pop. of Switzerland is 8.2m whereas UK is just under 65m, so they are in a far better position to take in a lot more immigrants. Unless we start digging up more greenbelt sites and farmland then the quality of life here is just going to get a whole lot worse than it already is.

If I'm not mistaken Iain Dale voted leave. He said so on the results programme.

BiB. Idealism is most often applied to left wing politics. Then you have it the other way round when finalising your points on 'right wing groups'. Hmm .. interesting.

I don't see how the left/right division can be applied to the referendum result. It might be the high-minded London lefties (or the Islingtom Massif as I saw them referred to) who favoured Remain but the main Brexit vote came from the traditional Labour north. The current Labour party has completely lost touch with its core voters.

In the broader picture in terms of reality, you're right.
The high-minded political 'elite' seem to want pontificate, like J O'B. I can't think what's wrong with them unless they prefer the loftiness of cloud nine... Oh dash it, that's reminded me of a lyric, "Major Tom to ground control" #Bowie

Ian Payne admitted yesterday that he didn't vote as he didn't think it had been made clear enough.

Yes cloud nine for the metropolitan elite. They keep on pontificating because they just don't get it.

Sorry, I was out yesterday and most of today. Nose

I am sure I have never listened to any of Lucy's shows all the way through - I am usually watching Casualty at that time. Can't be bothered to podcast.

The UK has more bargaining power than Switzerland. We buy a fifth of all Germany's cars for one thing. Can you see Angela telling the CEOs of BMW and Audi that Brussels is going to make trading with us difficult?
