I think Katie said something about David Mellor being on holiday and she is keeping the seat warm.

Although I didn't agree with Ken's views at times, I much preferred him with DM. Michael Crick just don't seem to click - IMHO (of course!).

I shouldn't imagine he was bothered. His radio work is probably just a profitable hobby.

Since leaving office has pursued a career as an international business consultant focusing heavily on the Middle East and China. He has been a senior advisor to a wide range of blue-chip companies as diverse as Ernst and Young, BAE Systems, Aedas, and a major Gulf-based Islamic bank. He is also senior partner of an investment brokerage company with offices in London and Hong Kong.

She actually said he's left the building. And he's no longer listed as a presenter. Perhaps she's sitting in until they find another political pairing for the slot. I think she's probably permanent. I seem to be the only person here who's happy about that.

I have just listened to the end of last week's podcast. David says at the end of an interview, "Stanley (Johnson) and I have shot our bolt, thank you for your company ... don't forget you can listen to LBC ..."

I take "shot our bolt" to mean they have come to the end of their show. No hint they would be back next week or not at all. It sounded very rushed at the end.

The level of intellectual discourse on LBC between 10-12pm on Saturdays has just fallen a few notches.

Mellor was never happy with the show being cut from three to two hours. He was always grumbling about there not being time to discuss things properly.

Yes, I would agree with that.

As LBC no longer do a sports programme, they could have started Ian Payne at 4pm with Tom Swarbrick presenting from 1pm.

Ken & Dave's show was the only one on LBC with any real political calibre, (IMO of course). What a great shame they've both left.

Why do they have to be so secretive about it. DM didn't say he was going on holiday and KH only said that DM had left the building and she was keeping his seat warm. Usually they say they are standing in while whoever is on holiday. It sounds different to that.

I have just listened back to the end of JOB's podcast and he says he is away next week and Tom Sawbrook is standing in. It still doesn't say that on the schedule.

Who is Maajid Nawaz? He's on tonight between 6 - 8 p.m. I can't think who is usually on then. No sense of whether it is holiday cover or permanent.

There you go. He's in for Bev, so presumably a one-off.

LBC is rarely my first choice of listening these days and depends more and more on what the other stations are doing in the various time slots.

Katy Hopkins was being a right misery guts when talking about Ride London this morning. They should make her do an entire show on a bike like pensioner Peter Allen did for 5 Livve.

DM has "shot" over to Bayreuth to review Sky Arts broadcast of Wagner's Ring Cycle which is going out live over the weekend.
He is a great Wagnerian and won't miss this for anything.
Nor will I.

Iain Dale on fridays 4pm-5pm slot asked callers to ring in with their views on Clinton/Trump and who they thought would win. He totally couldn't handle the first 2 callers making anti Trump comments and got very irritable with them as well as interpreting them loads and then switching to other callers while the callers were still speaking. He kept on putting those callers down to afterwards and had a couple of crawlers call him up afterwards backing him up but |'ve noticed over the years that phone in presenters can always get crawler callers to call in and agree with them, pied piper kind of effect imo.

He was incredibly rude, arrogant and I've had enough of Iain Dale to be honest. One caller the other day who was having a go in general said that he listens to hear what other callers have to say, not ID and that goes for me too. These radio presenters so need to get over themselves and in ID's case, he needs to stop making it so obvious that he can't handle Conservatives getting bashed by the callers!

Katie is fine but it would be a shame to lose the rather more highbrow political show that Mellor and Crick/Livingstone etc did on Saturdays.

They are now promoting Katie as 10am on Saturdays and Sundays now so maybe it is permanent.

Odd there has been no formal announcement - perhaps it is a summer holiday rescheduling and something else will be put in the slot when the politicians return from their holidays in September.

Still JOB is on his hols - Swarbrook is a much calmer listen with no ranting.

Bleeding heart lefty liberals calling up about nuclear power, these callers are scaremongers and need to get a grip.

The same could be said about right wingers so automatically signed up to a mega expensive technology that costs way more than any other energy when viable renewables, gas and when they find out how to do it clean coal could do the job too!

Also this nuclear power station is unlikely to be delivered until 2030 or beyond! EDF are way behind other nuclear power station builds they are doing too and this Hinkley C station is costing more than EDF is worth so its worrying about if it can be delivered and when and then the costs don't sound worth it.

I think its crazy that they won't go for the severn trent barage which could provide 6% UK energy need completely renewable source too all because a whole bunch of birds live there! When does such rights take over human needs when it comes to food or medicine? It doesn't so why should it on something as important as energy?!

No she is not. I'm quite glad to say that I have never listened to more than a few minutes of her show and probably less than half an hours worth in total ever since she first appeared on LBC.

If the political slot on Saturday mornings has been scrapped, then LBC have lost the plot. Its obvious with the amount of heavyweight political guests they had coming on that the show is listened too by the political establishment bigtime. The changes I'd make is go back to a 3 hour session and tell Mellor to give callers more airtime.

As for KT Hopkins, I think she needs to go too. LBC going into shock jock mode with the likes of her and Ian Collins really does them no favours whatsoever. Leave it to others to do shock jock rubbish!

It was a stupid phone-in as it was a bit like who will win the the 15:30, 2 horse race at Epsom, where both horses have a near equal chance, If he had asked 'who do you want to win the Presidential race and why' it would heve been far more sensible. But that's LBC for you - trying to put a sensationalist spin on everything.

So refreshing to listen to David Prever (ex LBC) currently doing the overnight slot on BBC London, showing how a decent presenter can still make a phone-in good listening.

I don't agree. Had Iain Dale allowed callers who were anti Trump to have made their points then it would have been better, he was the one who messed it all up all because they were saying things he didn't like or could handle! If he can't handle callers having a go at Conservatives then he needs to go. There might not be a requirement for him to be neutral but who wants to listen to him being so biased in favour of everything Tory and or Tory lite when it comes to the Labour party?!

There is a requirement I believe from OFCOM for presenters to treat callers fairly and I think he failed miserably on the first 2 callers especially as he kept on referring to them afterwards in a disparaging way!

You do realise that Dale is anti-Trump himself, don't you?

It must be wonderful to be able to make a firm judgement about something or somebody after only a few minutes exposure. This morning KH did an hour on London being closed for the big cycle ride and the second hour on 'home alone' children. I found both interesting and, at times, amusing. She attracts a wide variety of callers, all of whom she listens to with more courtesy than most of the other presenters.

As for shock jocks, I believe the term refers to presenters who set out deliberately to offend and stir up dissent. They've never flourished in this country, partly because we have fairly strict broadcasting regulations but mostly, I believe, because there's no appetite for them.
