Charlie makes a good point, and it's a case in point here, that when people make a good point or challenge an opinion, it's often ignored in favour of a pithy but pointless comment. I 'rest my case', with your reply to his post.

We're not supposed to discuss the thread or other posters on here, as I understand the rules, but as other people started it (and as I think they gave opinions that needed challenging) I wanted to reply. I do hope the chronology of this will be noted by the usual suspects who like to post off-topic comments, but then carp at those who follow it up and reply...

I didn't hear what SA said this morning but I was under the impression that he gives his bank carte blanche to do everything for him. viz, total authority to manage his finances without reference to him. He just takes his bank manager out to dinner now and then (which he pays for of course) and she tells him all is fine. I could of course mis-remembered what Steve said, but this has always seemed strange to me I know he's lazy but ....

He seems to use Paypal for his online shopping, which is not a bad idea so long as you remember to keep it topped up. It keeps the online villains out of your regular bank account.

I'm not sure about that claim. He said the other day he pays his car tax online, he just 'clicks a button'. I always get the best quote before renewal but then, I can't afford a baked potato @ £6.50 a throw like SA.

I am sure you are right. Unfortunately the vacuum then has to be filled with generic type discussions aka lazy topics that are guaranteed a high volume of calls. However these are intensely boring for everyone else.

Boring topics of the last few weeks include:

Grammar schools: boring for everyone not directly affected (ie with grown up children/no children) but gives the opportunity for everyone who excelled at grammar school or whose children are at them, to brag about their achievements.
NHS (including budget cuts/doctors' strike): opportunity for everyone with a grievance to detail the care, or lack of, day by day of their relative.
Maternity services: an opportunity for any woman to detail their labour on a minute by minute basis .(Many women seem to still be talking about this subject when their children are 40 but it is so tedious for everyone else.) Guess what - you're not unique.
Exam results: opportunity for bragging parents to list their children's achievements.
The Referendum: never the twain shall meet. Same thing said over and over.

Or maybe I am just getting old and grumpy of course and everyone else is riveted.
Perhaps a change of presenters is overdue - we know their political allegiances so there is nothing new to be said by them that we havent heard before, or commented on, here.

Dear, dear, dear, J O'B has just said "binary" again. Grrrr......
Can't he reinstall the 'basically' alarm for a 'binary' one? Just a thought ...

I'm starting to worry about J O'B. Is he going all Establishment? Yesterday he was enthusing about school uniforms and today he's being quite benevolent about grammar schools. He had a bit of a glitch on Wednesday, when he got all sentimental about the closure of some sleazy club he used to frequent, but I'm hoping he's getting over his Jamie Oliver phase!

Another assumption makeba?
I happen to despise superciliousness, that's why I replied. And yep, that's often what annoys me the most about J O'B as it so happens.

But that is the problem with the remit of this station and its relentless wall to wall politics of the day, relieved only occasionally by guests on Clive Bull's programmes which take us back to the good old days when LBC has a wider variety of programmes with DIY phone-ins etc.
I just don't listen - Simples. I watch TV in the evening, read or tune into any other station that either is playing classical music or listen to BBC R4. Commercial talk radio just doesn't do it for me and I'm too old to enjoy much of what is on the new Talk Radio station although Saturday afternoons does have motoring related topics.

That a man like Vallen should be given so much airtime without being challenged by his listeners, beggars belief.”

Hitch, I've noticed that, of late, your vocabulary has changed. You haven't been mixing with that rowdy crowd from Eltham, have you?

He's preparing for his children to go to secondary school so he's hedging his bets.

Eltham! Blimey. Don't mix with anyone North of Bromley. The very suggestion.

a) You started it and b) there you go failing to respond to anything said to you. Very convenient to allow this long-standing hypocrisy to continue, but very tedious and pointless.

As I said, some posters are more equal than others...
