TBF I was talking more in general than specifically. Wonder why Farage knows what the health arrangements for British immigrants in Spain would be post Brexit? He is not part of the government nor will be involved in future Brexit negotiations. He was confident in his answers to the caller from Spain but what he put over as fact was just speculation.

It's not a competition GS. Just an alternative with a lot less restrictions.

I'll happily use both as I have done with many other forums.

Not a lot happening on LBC to be honest worth commentating about !!

Well yes okay thats a very fair point to make you are right nobody will know yet what arrangements will be put in place for ex pats.To be honest i wonder why if they live and pay their taxes in spain while we are still paying for their health care from our taxes,i can understand temporary visitors IE holidaymakers ect but not permanent residents.

However he was right about one thing he mentioned TTIP which the EU are now negotiating with the US,which if it goes through will open the door for large american corps to bid for chunks of our NHS,unless safeguards are put in.

Nobody thinks it's a competition, although, reading some of the comments, you have to wonder why they bothered with DS. It reminds me of when a presenter swaps stations and slags off their previous employer. (James Whale, Iain Lee etc....) There's room for both. Horses for courses and all that.

Have often wondered why Brits who live and work abroad are called ex pats when in fact they are immigrants pure and simple.
Maybe JOB could discuss this one day? See how much I try to keep a semblance of on topic content into my post Am getting the hang of this after 9000 plus posts!

Its a bit politics heavy here for me and thats why I've been posting less and less anyway ... but I'm certainly around

Might be a good discussion.

Believe it or not i could yet be persuaded to vote stay in am thinking of EU scrapping of roaming charges, and the fact if you are off sick from work the eu ordered you can still accrue paid holiday, and the working time directive.

So although i may seem an out and outer i am still thinking what could be lost as well myself.

JOB talking about dating sites now.

Reminded me of a call Iain Dale got yesterday from a man whilst talking the same subject dating sites..

The man put on his profile originally he was a supermarket assistant and said he got not one reply.

He then put on his profile he was a successful businessman with a Ferrari and said he got no end of replies,it made me think the people who use these sites seem really shallow.

He did it as an experiment but was amazed at the number of replies asking for a ride in his "Ferrari"

Like every vote you should look at it from the start of what is best for you and your family. Roaming charges may sound petty but for me they are important. My wife is Italian and we go to Naples a few times a year so for me this is important. As is what will happen to air fares post Brexit? TBH I also don't trust the Tories not to demolish what is left of employment protection law.
Only about another 120 days to go..............

Well we would be in the long queue at immigration whenever you visit Europe, and we might no longer be part of the US tourist visa waiver programme for some time.

Googled it and it refers to people who voluntarily live/work abroad but retain their original nationality.

How is it going to be proved? Do you have to swear in front of a number of people? If I was having a one-to-one conversation with someone and said "dash it" (!); unless the other person had a recorder about their person, the words would be lost in the stratosphere !

You don't !!

Those who live & work in Spain, for instance, do not get free healthcare. They are required to pay into the Spanish system, through working, prior to being accepted into the system.

Only pensioners, in receipt of state pensions, receive health care paid for by the UK. They have paid in, during their working lives & many are still being taxed by the UK government. For example, a Civil Service pension can only be taxed in the UK .

Anyone else who chooses to live in Spain has to buy private health- care !!

However, a Spaniard who chooses to live in the UK will receive free health- care, immediately, based on providing any UK address.

In Spain - if, you don't pay in........you don't get out !!!

This seems to be a common misconception regarding the health-care for ex-pats.

Its why we are also advised to still take out travel insurance when traveling to Spain.

To benefit from the EHIC, first you have to find a public hospital, and then find a public hospital that will except the EHIC. Not all do.

Yep, slashing people's rights, then cutting their ability to use legal aid to fight back when those rights are stomped on. The perfect storm... (but all so unnecessary).

Maybe Ian wants some tips on how to land the Newsnight gig? Rather smart suit JOB was wearing last night.
TBH have no idea but hope it is worth the listen.

What the hell has happened to Steve Allen's show?

I used to love his insulting ways. But lately he's become unbearable.

He constantly brags about how much money he's making for the job he's doing. He brags about his book 'wot he wrote', and about how he blocks people who don't like the book.

He's spent all week going on about this Radio Times Radio Voice of 2016 thing, that HE'S in the running. Bragging again.

And what's this also about that TV chef Phil Vickery keep sending boring texts to Steve which Steve reads out. It's so boring. Both of them, they get on my nerves.

I stopped listening on Wednesday, just couldn't take any more.
