Were you in the music business Charlie?
BTW Just thought of something. Is tin pan alley in London or AMERICA?
Yes, BR - still am!
Good question about tin pan alley, almost like Mystery Hour!
Without looking it up, I do know that Denmark Street in London has always been considered 'Tin Pan Alley' and believe there is an equivalent in NYC.

Well it can't be as bad as the interview that Shelagh Fogarty did with a guy that used to "work" with Sir George. I believe he was a technician in the studio. They wee 'singing' opening lines from songs, then wondering whether Sir George produced some other songs (other than The Beatles). At one point Shelagh looked one up while the guy was talking, and came back with "yes he did", and sang the first line of the song! Then the guy mentioned that he produced Slade at one time - Shelagh sings "Merry Christmas, Everybody" to which he replied that track was recorded in America !
Yes, Martin, as I'm sure you know, he worked on the Parlophone comedy records (Goons, Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan etc.). before signing up with the Fab Four. Coincidentally, Bernard Cribbins' "Right Said Fred' was recently discussed on here!
Regarding the Iain Dale interview, he seemed decidedly disinterested and probably just did it because he had to. Not controversial enough for him, probably. I can categorically state that he's not someone with whom I would wish to share a pint down the pub, and feel sure that the feeling would be mutual!

Recorded in New York in the middle of a 40c heatwave I believe.

Ah now it's coming back. Read the first Danny Baker bio last year and he used tin pan alley and it was Denmark Street. Sounds such an American phrase I thought it must come from over the pond.

Yeah, have heard Noddy talk about it on BBC 4. Think he said he had the melody written for several years but couldn't write a lyric for it. Think the pressure of having to get an original Christmas song recorded clarified the mind somewhat.

Iain Dale just told Jonathan from Liverpool who used to be from Swansea not to phone his show again. I can't recall anybody else being told by any presenter not to phone their show again. I only caught the end of the call, which seemed to be an argument over fuel tax going to the EU, so I don't know if earlier in the call it was more outrageous, like the call he made to Nick Abbott that was described in this thread a few days ago.

After the break Iain apologised for telling Jonathan to "shut up", although Jonathan was not letting Iain speak so he was justified.

Not forgetting the glorious Nellie The Elephant, which bears some (tenuous) relevance to the forthcoming choice of Republican candidate in the US GE.

Really? Did you never listen to the late Mike Dickin? He said the same to callers on many occasions, sometimes including the sensible ones that he misunderstood.

Ferrari goes further than that and tells them not to listen.

I've noticed with a number of callers over the years that once the presenter starts speaking, the caller won't be allowed to speak again. Often, they are correct in this assumption. Therefore, the caller tends to continue talking frantically whilst being interrupted.
This is one of the many reasons I don't call LBC. The presenter has all the power.
Sometimes this might be a good thing. Other times not!

Who is the 'expert' that Clive Bull is interviewing regarding the NHS and why would he choose an American to enlighten us?
OK the institute for economic affairs or something.
To all intents and purposes creeping privatisation of dentistry has already taken place.
Now it's the turn of the rest of the NHS. Despicable.

Has there been any mention of the Dumblane anniversary on LBC today? Hard to believe that twenty years have passed so quickly.
I was out of the country at the time and didn't know what had taken place until I got home. Was living just outside Stirling and knew people who had children at the school. It has cast such a shadow but in a way it has made folk from round there very close and so supportive of each other.
If anyone is interested there is a documentary on BBC 2 at 9 pm.

Have you not heard 'My boomerang won't come

I see my NHS dentist, doctor; if I should have to go to hospital it will be an NHS hospital. I get my prescriptions free, thanks to the NHS.

Not regularly, but Talk Radio/TalkSport was a more aggressive talk station, so it wouldn't be such a surprise to hear callers being told not to call again there.

It's one of the main reasons why I don't listen much now, let alone call LBC. At least on BBC Radio London the caller isn't treated with anything like the disdain on LBC. There's one particular caller known as Peter, who's probably one of the most intelligent and knowledgeable of all callers, whom I always seem to catch on LBC when I do tune in..When I've heard him call, the presenters usually keep him on for a bit and rarely interrupt. But he was on Nick Abbot's show a couple of weeks ago voicing some sensible opinion as he always does, but NA called him an idiot and cut him off in mid sentence, simply because he couldn't understand nor had the patience to try understanding what Peter was getting at. NA wasn't amusing. Just proving as usual what a seriously ignorant dick he is. Quite a few callers had a go at him after this supporting Peter, and that was amusing, particularly when NA implied they were all idiots too.

Does that horrible homophobe Kebab Man (AKA Stewart of Stanmore) still call LBC?

He's just been on BBC London suggesting it would be nice if Cuban Tony died and was stuffed.

No he hasn't phoned LBC for a very long time, probably snce the Bill Buckley days. He only calls Radio London nowadays.

That's not true. I have heard him several times in recent months. I can't remember which presenter he was calling but it would have been some time between 8pm and 1am because that's mostly the time that I'm listening.

Fogerty once again is discussing her favourite topic - The NHS (or more specifically the junior doctors strike).

This woman drives me nuts. For someone who supposedly claims that the NHS is close to her heart, she doesn't even care to take a position on the above strike only to say that its "hurting both patients and doctors". Furthermore, she's now whingeing about the fact that she's being attacked on social media (and by some callers) for taking this stance. TBH, she sounded more pro Jeremy Hunt than BMA.

Aside from Beverly Turner, this woman has got to be the worst presenter currently on LBC. No redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Actually ISTR him saying he's spoken to someone called Iain, so I presume he meant Dale not Lee.

More likely Ian Collins.

You changed the details to suit your view. As for you trying to drag JOB into this well I thought we had moved on from that ridiculous pastime. If you can say in what context he used the expression then you may have a point but otherwise then you are as guilty as he is. He said it, you typed it. Without context you are talking nonsense.
In what context would using the outdated and racist term "red Indians" be justifiable? Especially as O'Brien was not quoting someone else when he said it.

Iain Dale does get heated sometimes with the more nuttier callers! Ferrari tends to take them as a bit of a joke and make funny comments or tongue-in-cheek remarks, O'Brien rips their arguments to pieces but Dale just seems to get angry with them quite a lot!
