Nick Abbot had a couple of very odd callers to start his show off tonight. Apparently, Obama is trying to incite riots in order to invoke laws that would allow him to remain as president and postpone the election....!

Listened for the first time in ages and enjoyed his take on Trump. He does seem to attract the slightly odd fringe of callers. There was one very excitable Trump fan who insisted Trump was a poor boy made good and refused to believe he had a millionaire father. But Nick was unusually patient with a lady who wittered on about her pet rabbits and cats.

There's some stat out there saying that Trump isn't such a great businessman, and would have made more from his original inheritance if he'd just stuck it in a standard savings account.

Very difficult issue. Instinctively, I'm anti-drug, but the arguments in favour of legalisation can be quite powerful. I don't see much difference between having legal alcohol and nicotine, but not cannabis. And it would save money fighting a war they can never win.

Presumably it would be sold under the same kind of license as tobacco and alcohol; it will be illegal to sell it to under-18s. That leaves a hell of a big market for illegal trading and could possibly lead to even more targeting of schools. And a caller made a very good point in that, as with tobacco, the Government will over-tax it so that it will always be cheaper on the street.

You are right in what you say about Trump and his starting money which Pa Trump gave him. If you add in his various bankruptcies and the cost to his unpaid creditors then his business record is far from perfect.
There was a great article in the NY Times a while back which had a figure of how many Mexicans had worked in his various schemes in the last twenty years. Was in the hundreds of thousands.

It's an interesting topic. ATM the only people making money are the dealers and it is a gateway drug into a life of using harder drugs which the dealers will be only too happy to supply.

The advantage of licensed dispensary schemes I guess is that proper health information could be provided in the dispensary. Many people are unaware of the mental illnesses that even light 'recreational' use creates 20 or 30 years down the line - schizophrenia, paranoia , depression, mood disorders etc. There are apparently 1500 such dispensaries in LA and the opportunity to provide health information was the main motivation for the scheme.

It would also limit the use of the hybrid skunk that is now extensively taken and can be very harmful long term.
Just Say No and drugs cars and the war on drugs have been spectacular failures.
I can't see it ever happening. After successive governments demonising the use of tobacco, I can't imagine one giving the thumbs up to something else we can stick in our mouths, set light to and inhale.
