Totally OT but you used the word salamander which reminded me of my granny who used that word in a very strange context.
If we got on her wrong side she would threaten us with the warning that she would give us "such a salamander"
Never actually happened but thought it meant she was going to give us a good smack. Just wondered where dear old granny got this phrase from

Can Abbott not open her gob and not put her foot in it?

All those who vote UKIP are BNP - good call girl, despite fast backtracking.

Doesn't surprise me, she has been awful for a long time, but i wouldn't want to divide and rule.

I haven't listened much to LBC today. Where have the contributors gone? Have you disappeared? Don't be put off by making opinions even if they disagree with others who hold 'feisty' political beliefs. Best to leave 'the boys' to fight it out on their own.

I don't know. But J O'B is more than capable of eliciting hatred responses by invoking provocative speech with his repetitive declaration of, "If you build it, they will come". So I guess, fair's fair.

BTW why is this Parkinson and Mirren piece of history in the news?
Didn't hear the introduction so guessed that one of them has a book out and this is part of the publicity campaign”

Morning....been away working so couldn't post yesterday but I did hear NF yesterday on Parkinson/Mirren and the Sarah Fergusion MOS story was astonished in how they were covered and how NF handled them. He is fast becoming my least favourite host on LBC because of the poor way he handles things that he either disagrees with or wants to twist in a certain direction.

The Parkinson interview is something from another time and although NF did say that he then just brushed that aside by keeping pursuing the line that Parkinson was brushing it away by saying he was "Yorkshire" and he twisted the comment made by MP in the interview about HM being a "serious" actress.

Then on SF Andrew Piearce came on and had an over the top go at the story......allowed to happen by NF.

The agendas involved behind all this needs to be remembered of course. NF allows that not to be fully explored whilst talking over people, twisting comments, and allowing comment by people to go unchecked.

Sounds very poor IMO and whilst he is part of the general mix of wide opinion on LBC, it shows why NF's was a top "tabloid" editor with all the worst aspects that has to happen and hold to succeed.

NF going down the FoS line.
Fair enough but would he be saying the same thing if it was the likes of Choudry that was to speak at the school?

Ah yes, Hamilton, the oh so judgmental troupe whose original casting call read:

OPEN CASTING CALLS IN CALIFORNIA is holding OPEN AUDITIONS for SINGERS who RAP
Seeking NON-WHITE men and women ages 20s to 30s for Broadway and upcoming
Tours!

Racism goes both ways.

I do wish NF would stop banging on about charging 'foreigners' for NHS treatment. It's so boring and pointless.
He has been told so many times that the admin would cost more than the revenue.
NHS staff cannot acess Gov databases to check NI etc numbers for data protection reasons.
Of course its different in the US. Its easier to check insurance details - i have worked in the NHS and private system here. If you have insurance you take your details with you to register when you first go and someone is employed to invoice them.
A bit different to pitching up at A + E in the middle of the night. Who is supposed to check eligibility and how? At 3 am. Whose job is it to send a bill to travel insurance companies? They have to be paid too.
There is already a rudimentary scheme, in many London hosps anyway, that if you arent registered with a GP and are not an emergency, you are charged a flat fee to see one.
How many times does he just dismiss arguments implying the will isnt there?
Last time he just kept saying 'tap, tap, tap on the computer and its done'. To access what?

According to NF it only took Allied Forces a couple of months to plan the D-day landings. Since this is clearly the yardstick by which all other ventures are measured, he cannot believe the it can take 2 years to negotiate a trade deal with the EU or presumably that introducing a charging regime for the NHS ought to present any difficulty.

Favourite moment this morning was when his guest pointed out that our first attempt to attack the Germans in France (the BEF) was a total disaster.

To be fair NF had never heard of Brandon Victor Dixon before the "Pence" incident and the tickets for Hamilton cost a minimum of $400 each so that naturally invalidates any opinion expressed.

I actually agree that the actors were wrong to make the comments to Pence but NF's arguments were so puerile that I found myself siding with the opposition.

It appears that Pence approached the issue with a lot more class than either Trump or NF could muster.

If the abuse of the NHS is not halted, this will play into the hands of any Government that wishes to bring some serious privatisation in. Public opinion and awareness of the extent of the problem has grown to the point where fact and fiction will blur. Like any arterial bleed you need to go in and sort it at source. Mopping around and cleaning / hiding the nonstop heavy drips may be a salve to some peoples sensibilities, but this is terminal.

I can understand practical issues and the pressure on NHS Staff in trying to implement any form of selective treating. Best route maybe, is to bring in third party private profit orientated contractors who will work in tandem from point of entry at Hospitals. Might sound harsh or unpleasant, but like with any system, once genuine claimants get used to it should cause no issue in practice. Some potential income may be lost in handing this part to outside contractors, but I'm sure they will generate far more than is currently being collected. This will also quickly stop the abuse and clogging up of the NHS service, which will remain free to those who have the right to access.
