Hate crime is defined by police as "any criminal offence which is perceived, by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice towards someone based on a personal characteristic".

The data/statistics are not reliable.

Consider the Brexit aftermath. The police say that 3,192 reports of hate incidents were received in the last two weeks of June, and 3,001 in the first two weeks of July. Apparently that constitutes a rise of 48 per cent and 20 per cent respectively on last year’s levels of incidents. But can we engage in some scepticism here? Many of these incidents (the police can’t at the moment say how many) were reported through True Vision, a police-funded website that allows anyone anywhere to report something they either experienced or witnessed, anonymously if they like. No evidence is needed. Everything is instantly logged as a hate incident. This inevitably presents a warped view of reality.

I've just got back from taking my four year old grandson to school and it was felt freezing outside it must be the fault of Farage, Brexit and Trump becoming the president. Before all this Brexit stuff and Trump the weather was lovely around here maybe they should run the referendum and presidential race again.

And there was me blaming it on Ed Balls being voted out of Strictly. Definitely a case for a recount there.

Funny you should say this because before the referendum a neighbour told me that he was voting leave because "since they brought in that global warming, the summers have been awful".

I keep trying to give J O'B a second chance (and a third, fourth....) But he's just been incredibly offensive to a caller, so I'm afraid it's 'off' again.

Gurney if you really can't manage to physically switch him off and leave him off may I politely suggest the following ....

1. Go down to the bottom of your garden with your radio and a shovel.

2. Dig a deep hole about 5 feet deep.

3. Chuck the radio into the hole.

4. Fill in the hole.

6. Go back into your house and forget all about it.

But I'd have to go out and dig it up again to listen to Ferrari.

I have a confession to make ....

One day last week I heard a few minutes of the O'Brien show. [It was accidental of course]

A guy rang in that had voted to remain in the Ref.

He was banging on about how the Brexiteers have no respect for the Remainers and then he called all Brexiteers mentally deficient.

Yes I see the problem, is it possible to have the signal for LBC blocked weekdays between 10.00am-1.00pm?.

Yes, but you'll need a Faraday cage to do that Billy.

Goes both ways, as above.

I am perturbed about how rude and angry people seem to get on the whole Brexit issue. It's genuinely worrying.

It really is. I've not long returned from a holiday, one of a group of 29. The first time we were all together it was agreed Brexit would not be discussed in any shape or form: we all had a wonderful holiday ....

I may be biased but have observed that when people who voted to leave ring in they have a very patronising and angry tone when ..spelling ..out ..exactly ..what ..they ..voted ..for ...or like the chap just now complain about how Europe have treated us

I have a bit of a hangover today and am even more intolerant of those who do not share my world view

Thank you

As more or less a neutral on Brexit myself, I tend to agree that the Leave side have the worst of the callers in terms of blind anger and an unwillingness to see any nuance in their position.

It is the Remain side that invoke the 'uninformed, moronic, stupid, blind, 'punch yourself in the face' comments.

As far as I can see, the Leave side just state that we voted leave and let's get on with it.

He'll probably have left it for tomorrow then he can go off to bed tonight with all his EU leaders dolls and work up a froth and frenzy about what line his slagging off will be on the show in the morning.

Did James O'Brien cut them off?

I wasn't impressed with the performance of Peter Whittle in the LBC debate and he subsequently dropped out of the leadership contest. Having now been appointed as Deputy Leader he was just interviewed by Horse-Startler Foggerty and I must say she made him look rather feeble. He will need to sharpen his wits a bit if he wants to avoid letting the side down, otherwise Paul Nuttall might need to consider a very early re-shuffle.

I suggest you are not looking very far then.

You are free to suggest whatever you wish, but the inane comment list is headed by Bangla and Trevgo. In the last few hours one has likened UKIP supporters to morons, and the other slagged off scousers because of their accent.

Both trying to sound clever too - an unforgiveable sin when trying to be funny.

I can only tell you what I hear from the callers on the radio, as per my original comment. The anger and obstinate inability to recognise any nuance has been significantly over-represented on the Leave side to my ears.

Blair once promised us a referendum on the EU when he was PM then he forgot all about it because he doesn't believe in referendum.
Isn't it just a teeny weeny bit odd that now suddenly because it went the wrong way [for him] when somebody else did finally give us one he now does believe in them and badly wants yet another one.

Just putting it there folks, just putting it out there.
