Steve's got Boy George coming in today to record an In Conversation. I've never heard him say anything about BG that wasn't absolutely vile! Even Steve admits it could be 'interesting'.

Morning all.
Steve's second In Conversation this weekend is Fay Weldon. This will be interesting, Fay Weldon will brook no silly talk for sure, she gave Jo Good on BBC London a really hard time recently in a short 5 minute interview, Fay was having none of Jo making it about herself and for asking the "wrong" question. I actually like Jo Good, she is very much a female Steve Allen (it's all about me) but she does it with humour and self deprecation [and yes I know JG is the true definition of Marmite]

No. Not everyone finds knowledge interesting.
not everyone finds interesting knowledge hilarious etc.

To say that presenters on LBC are far-right is ridiculous. The majority come across as right-wing, but that reflects the electorate. As they are a commercial station, they are going to try to reach the largest possible audience.
so platforming ukip and similar isnt far right? (where do you think ex bnp and edl have gone) their non stop anti muslim anti islam anti immigrant anti welfare anti eu is standard far right fodder.

the electorate is fairly evenly split , they choose not to have bame presenters and criteria appears to be a love for israel and the board of deputies.

Perhaps you should listen to a radio station that fits your agenda and political viewpoint, if you can find one. It could make you much happier.
thats a silly comment.

JoB claims to love jamie oliver and martin lewis. both of these individuals have made millions on the back of having the image of being so called 'peoples champions'. the latter whose website was supported by many contributors & who believed his promise that he would never sell it for personal gain and would run it always as a non profit organisation. JoB loves money (middle class aspiration to 1%-er) but wants to off-set his guilt with this kind of fake altruism.

these lbc media 1%-ers ignoring the disability (etc) cuts and running with the unworkable sugar tax.

i find his show is wholly dependent upon the quality of his guests routine because steve himself is quite limited in his small talk and lack of being able to keep a conversation going.

No it isn't. You appear to dislike every aspect of LBC and its presenters. Listening to it doesn't seem to give you any pleasure, so why do it?

If you think LBC is far right, you should contact Ofcom. I'm sure they would be delighted to investigate. I think your "love of Israel and board of deputies" comment tells us all we need to know.

Last night I switched over for awhile to Duncan Barkes. A caller asked him for his views on a particular subject. Duncan said wef that he is not employed to give his own view on subjects ... that was the nature of the BBC.

Could you imagine NF or J O'B, for example, not being allowed to express their own opinion. Thank goodness for LBC!

I think to be fair to Duncan Barkes that this is how he likes to run his show, it's not the edict of the BBC. Obviously it's just my opinion, but I have heard plenty of BBC radio presenters giving their own opinion.

Martin can you tell me what is meant by "Duncan said wef" (BIB). Is your phone doing it's own thing or is this a new word? Genuine question, thanks.

Oh dear, I know J O'B is genuinely concerned about his topic this morning - cuts in disablement benefits - but I wish he wouldn't speak to callers as though he's soothing a toddler with a grazed knee. He's also doing that thing of putting words in their mouth by finishing their sentences for them. He's had some heart-breaking calls but he is milking it!

I think your post sums up for me all that is wrong with J'OB. Vanessa covered the same topic earlier today, some of her calls were heart-breaking. Vanessa was clearly moved by what she was hearing and came across in that way. After hearing some of the calls I am going to stop moaning about my aching calves and the fact that I have to go on a good old walk each morning before I feel normal, some poor people cannot go for a walk, they can't even get out of the house

Yes, he seems to be able to turn on an 'emotion switch' - angry, sarcastic, sympathetic etc. Makes you wonder what the real JOB is really like

Vanessa was very good indeed, but I think she usually is. Certainly a much better option that Nick Ferrari, IMO.

I disagree. Feltz just doesn't seem to work as well on the breakfast show as she did on the mid morning slot. She is capable of presenting an excellent phone-in but she is more suited to a James O'Brien style slot than a fast-paced breakfast show.

Nick is still #1 in my opinion.

I have a theory that people who spend a good amount of time during the day caring for under 10s, develop this habit of speaking slowly in a sing song voice. It's a similar criticism of Beverley Turner.

It wears off when they become teens and develop the attention span of a gnat and you then have to speak very fast to impart information.

Actually, I agree with you that she was even better in the mid-morning slot, with more time to dig deeper into an issue.

However, for me, she is still miles better than the unpleasant Ferrari.

A long, long time ago I spent a couple of years as an assistant in a nursery school, herding 3&4-year-olds around. I developed a high-pitched, jolly hockey sticks voice, probably influenced by Joyce Grenfell and her struggles with Sydney and George. Luckily it soon wore off!

Oh dear. I will forever see Joyce Grenfell's toothy grin when I read your future posts!

Wonder if he'll ever play the Rolf Harris one again.

(pic. 26 - Rolf Harris & Mr Blobby)
Blimey Gurners. Some of those pictures go back a long way. Either that or they're old ones superimposed over. Graham Norton for instance looks about 20 years older than that these days.

Fanny still only seems to look about 40/41 thoughout though. Amazing how he always seems to look the same - cough....cough....splutter.

He was heralding his '41st' birthday yesterday btw.

Wise words from Iain. They should have it pinned up over the mics.

Iain Dale ‏@IainDale 31m31 minutes ago Bromley, London
Breaking news is a balance between reporting it as u know it & repeating it 4 new listeners without irritating those who've already heard it

Don't, I've got a job interview at an all girls prep school next week. It'll be more Alastair Sim or George Cole than Joyce Greenfell for me.

I made the mistake of naming one of mine George and spent years sounding like Joyce Grenfell! It made me cringe everytime I bellowed it in the park.
