Steve's second In Conversation this weekend is Fay Weldon. This will be interesting, Fay Weldon will brook no silly talk for sure, she gave Jo Good on BBC London a really hard time recently in a short 5 minute interview, Fay was having none of Jo making it about herself and for asking the "wrong" question. I actually like Jo Good, she is very much a female Steve Allen (it's all about me) but she does it with humour and self deprecation [and yes I know JG is the true definition of Marmite]
Thought they were re-running an old Paul Daniels interview ?

Yes, I thought they had, although you can't always tell!

I'd guess we're going to be hearing the name IDS quite a lot over the next few days. But at least it's driven the sugar tax off the agenda. I wonder how IDS-hating J O'B will tackle it.

Morning all.

Actually, I heard that as well, what a hoot but to be honest, all his show have the same format, moans and bitching and so they all sound the same. Any mix could be put on air on Saturday, or most days of the week come to think of it and very few of us would notice, I'd imagine.

Yes I imagine both Ferrari and O'Brien are quite irritated that IDS chose to resign on a Friday night- by the time they get the chance to cover the story on their shows on Monday it will be old news.

Empirical evidence suggest that Friday is the best day of the week to resign from your job.

Yes, I heard the error too. Perhaps it was a deliberate ruse to fill in airtime because there wasn't anything remotely worthy for inclusion in the weekly 'Best Of' program.

And you're correct, his whole show is just one whingeing bitchfest with a dollop of hypocrisy - knows how to dish out criticism but doesn't know how to take it back.

Just catching up on NA show from last night, it seems a bit IDS heavy. Can someone tell me if it was the whole show? If it was I might just give up and write off Friday's show and look forward to Saturday's show.

But it was Iain Dale who was called on to comment (on Olly's show) as soon as the resignation was announced. LBC must consider him their principal political commentator.

David Mellor has been less than polite about him this morning, saying (amongst other things) that he isn't very bright.

Mellor doesn't think anybody whose name doesn't start with M and end with R is very bright!

You know my username is just a short form of makebar, don't you...?

To answer your question about JOB earlier, he's just tweeted:

James O'Brien ‏@mrjamesob 3h3 hours ago
Desperate to run away from mess he made at DWP, wrong-footed by Cameron allowing cabinet freedom on #Brexit, only escape route left for IDS?

They are.
During the week Steve himself advertised Fay Weldon's In Conversation would be on "this weekend", whether the Paul Daniels interview is for 30 minutes or whether they are re-scheduling due to Paul Daniels' death I know not.

Stig Abell covered for Andrew Pierce this morning. Made me think it was Sunday for a minute until I realised!

It was the interchangeable blandness of both presenters.

Did anyone else hear the start of Nick's show tonight?

It started with the sound effect "It's all going extremely well" and then immediately everything went silent. Steve Allen's In Conversation kicked in for a while, then we had a trailer, then Steve Allen again, and finally we had Nick.

Why does it always happen to him?

Your words are too sophisticated for him, he won't comprehend.

Somebody's rattled Steve's cage this morning. Either he's not feeling well or he's having a bad weekend. He began the show with a thirty minutes rant about the Royal family that was so crude, spiteful and pointless that it would have made a republican blanch. And I'm not a raving royalist. He's now given similar treatment to the Beckhams and Rebecca Adlington. His acolytes will say it's an act but, in that case, why? Perhaps he thought he was being satirical but satire is funny and if anybody was amused by it they must be very strange.

Morning all.

Just looked at the Leg End FB page. Some poor soul thinks it's hilarious.

Yes. He's said some vile things about BG over the years. I'm hoping George's reputation for being as nasty as Steve says he is is true. It could turn ugly!

The Royal family rant was everything you say, as far as I can recall he's not been that anti-royal in the past? Perhaps someone's had a word and he's leaving the usual suspects alone, as we know the royals cannot defend themselves. I'm no royalist but it made me uncomfortable. He was totally off when he said Diana was "loved by everyone" - it's not the case, it's nearly 20 years since she died and she hardly gets mentioned in the press these days, being as "honest" as Steve my guess is that very few people even give her a thought these days. And picking on 4 year old Harper Beckham, come on Steve.
