The Royal family rant was everything you say, as far as I can recall he's not been that anti-royal in the past? Perhaps someone's had a word and he's leaving the usual suspects alone, as we know the royals cannot defend themselves. I'm no royalist but it made me uncomfortable. He was totally off when he said Diana was "loved by everyone" - it's not the case, it's nearly 20 years since she died and she hardly gets mentioned in the press these days, being as "honest" as Steve my guess is that very few people even give her a thought these days. And picking on 4 year old Harper Beckham, come on Steve.
The other day Fanny said that he has no problem with the Queen and so on but has no time for the "minor" Royals. Apparently that includes the 2nd and 5th in line to the throne.

In his anti "minor Royals" riff this morning he managed to suggest that the proposal to create a temporary garden of remembrance for Diana was Princes William and Harry's idea (it isn't) and that this is a self serving attempt to take the heat off themselves because "they don't have jobs" rather than any real feeling for their mother. Nice.

Fanny is obsessed with people "having jobs", particularly the very rich and independently wealthy who don't need to earn an income from regularly working.

Did anyone else hear the start of Nick's show tonight?

It started with the sound effect "It's all going extremely well" and then immediately everything went silent. Steve Allen's In Conversation kicked in for a while, then we had a trailer, then Steve Allen again, and finally we had Nick.

Why does it always happen to him?
You can hear when Nick managed to get back on air, here.

Thanks Martin

Why does this only ever seem to happen to Nick, and why so often? It seems very strange.

No it isn't. You appear to dislike every aspect of LBC and its presenters. Listening to it doesn't seem to give you any pleasure, so why do it?
There seems to be a number of folks on the LBC thread who detest various presenters, but insist on listening to them, despite there being plenty of alternatives. Funny old world.

I don't normally hear the beginning of his programme.

Maybe somebody has it 'in' for him ?

Could it be he walks into the studio and presses a wrong button?? Maybe the studio gets a bit 'steamed up' after the preceding programme Does it happen on a Friday night?

Never used to get this with Amanda! They've recently had a shuffle round of producers. Iain and Steve have new ones. And this morning Steve mentioned something about studio refurbishment going on.

They have only just had brand new studios.

It was a bit surreal.

It took me a moment or two to realise a random bit of 'In Conversation' was playing.

They seem to have a very quick turnaround with producers at LBC.

Poor Nick must have some sort of electrical field round him he has so many technical problems and not forgetting the lights still going out every 40 minutes

That's good news. He's a better presenter.

Is that still a problem? I don't think Ian Collins or Darren Adam have ever mentioned it.

Nick mentions the lights just about every show.

He's the only one who ever mentions it so I can only assume he sits extremely still!

In my very first (Xmas and Saturday) job, I knew a guy who couldn't use the EPOS till without it crashing every time. He said it happened with other electronic things and really believed it was something physical about him.

After the Nick Abbot incident, Cristo was complaining about the technology as well, saying that headphones were completely broken or only working on one side. Maybe they would be suitable for Brian as that wally only wears them over one ear anyway.

People in radio tend to be obsessed with the celebrities, the egos, the on-air voices and all that stuff and they forget that radio needs good engineers and technical support staff on hand at all times. I see examples of this neglect of the technical side all too often.

The Fannies have got to be the worst, no one forces them to listen. But then again it might be some sort of addiction that makes them want to constantly post their criticism about SA.

You do wonder if there's something in it. There are certain people I go out with who who seem to get electric shocks from static all the time whilst I don't get any.

I'm pretty sure that LBC, like any other company, keep engineers to an absolute minimum over weekends and late at night ... sounded like they had had to do a mad dash to another studio completely last night.

Enjoyed listening to Petrie talking about hypnotherapy.

This is something she HASN'T experienced - must be a first.

I avoid her like the plague. She annoys me when she says "I love you, I could talk to you all day"

Has there been a slump in listeners calling LBC?

Notice that there has been an increase recently in nutcases getting past the switchboard. Some totally mad and others just making prank calls such as the guy who rang in claiming to be seriously worried about the effect that "DUST" was having on us

I know what you mean, she's full of clichés but then so are other presenters. When asked by a caller how she is, Petrie will say, "I'm good thank you" . Having said that, if I happen to find a topic interesting I tend not to be put off and listen to the callers.

"Petrie" and "Interesting" sounds like an oxymoron to me....

Out of interest does anyone quite like Petrie in preference to the blandness of other current female presenters?

PS. Can't see there being an avalanche of replies somehow.

I've noticed that. Today they've been promoting Steve's appalling Royal rant.

Some people on Radio are cringeworthy, Steve is a personable guy at times, but occasionally he goes off on wild rants about nobodies - just because the Daily Mail have featured same nobodies. .. Entertaining sometimes, but equally deserving of criticism.....

He reminds me of someone in a pub......reading through the paper slamming certain people....bragging about salary etc.

Could it be something to do with talkRADIO launching tomorrow?

So who's going to switch over and give it a go?
