As has been said, LBC are the only radio station in the country with proper live talk output over Christmas,.......
What will they have to talk about over Christmas? Most of the shows are news driven......The only time I listen to speech radio over xmas are recordings from the archives....old Neil Rogers, Iain lee and Danny Baker shows.

Well they could talk about the implications of this year's Brexit vote for a start

Christmas schedule is a very difficult one to predict this year.

What we know so far:

+ Steve Allen will present "The Steve Allen Christmas Breakfast Show" from 7am-10am on Christmas Day, as usual

+ Katie Hopkins will be in for James O'Brien over the Christmas period, although it's unlikely that she will work on Christmas Day

+ Nick Abbot will be presenting his usual "A-Z"

I also suspect that Ian Payne will be presenting around the Christmas period- he covered the breakfast show for a couple of weeks, and presented the 10am-1pm slot on Christmas Day.

It's probable that Richard Spurr and Sam Pittis, two freelance local radio presenters, will again make Christmas cover appearances. Majjid Nawaz is a Muslim and therefore doesn't celebrate Christmas, so it's probable that he will do some cover work. I reckon he'll be given the drive slot over Christmas, because Tom Swarbrick presented that slot over Christmas last year and Nawaz is Swarbrick's replacement.

Other than that, I haven't got a clue what LBC's schedule will look like for Christmas. I'm looking forward to seeing it when they announce it!

We will soon find out. The news cycle does still carry on through the Christmas period, so there will still be things to talk about, but you're right that there is less news over the festive break and so there may be a shortage of current topics to discuss.

Brexit, Trump, Immigration and the NHS- LBC's four core stock topics, may end up making a number of appearances!

Didn't get the chance to post it at the time but I was laughing out loud as Nick Ferrari hilariously dissected and debunked the claims of the environmental activists of how to stop pollution.

NF: "They want to ban speed bumps... I still don't know how they didn't notice the suspension damage when I returned my leased Mercedes... still, that's the Porsche garage's problem now!"

NF: "They want to create borders of foliage between cycle lanes and vehicle lanes in London- it would be like driving through the Amazon rainforest!"

NF: "Banning cars idling outside schools and retirement homes- why in the world would you idle outside a retirement home?! And how are they going to enforce that?!"

NF: "Moving living rooms to the front of houses... Nope, me neither"

NF: "Motorway speed limit reduced to 50 miles an hour... you'd never get anywhere! Literally, nobody would get anywhere at all. That's absolute madness."

NF: "Just on the topic of speed bumps, I have to say... there's a speed bump near where I live- I went over it at 20 miles an hour- it was like I'd been hit by a sledgehammer! Man Alive! It felt like I'd hit a deer!"

Maajid Nawaz, he makes O'Brien look like the best radio presenter in the world.

Maajid Nawaz, who the heck is he? And who seriously cares what he thinks, except him.

Maajid Nawaz, who has a highly inflated opinion of who he is and his importance in this country.

Maajid Nawaz, what a bore. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

Irrelevant and shouldn't be on the radio.

Not really true. Last year, in addition to Steve Allen's Christmas Breakfast Show, LBC had "Calls of the Year with James O'Brien and Shelagh Fogerty" and there was some sort of Christmas-related programme presented by Shelagh about Catholicism at Christmas.
I wouldn't personally call them festive, but more like 'specials'. But either way, it's still a million miles away from the kind of thing I was thinking of.

In the Radio Times Sam Pittis is listed for through the night on Classic FM on Christmas week and I don't think he's appeared on LBC since he started presenting on Classic. Richard Spurr is down for Radio Derby mid-mornings for three days from the 28th although not his usual Sunday show next week. However he has been listed in the Radio Times in the past for Radio Derby and been on LBC instead.

No kidding, how tree-hugging! Where's the road width to plant swathes of CO2-loving Palm trees between cyclists and motorists in London, I ask you ..

Majjid Nawaz said at the end of his programme today that he was done for the christmas break and that he wouldn't be back until the 9th January..

I remember one year Prince Phillip was in hospital and the Queen had to attend the christmas day church service at Sandringham on her own without him.

Jesus wept. LBC went on and on about it all day and it was all over the TV news channels. I'm guessing they were milking a very quiet news day.

Steve has recently begun doing that DelBoy thing of slipping odd foreign phrases into his conversation. This morning it was somebody who'd gone on holiday 'mit famill'. German, Franglais?

We had a full inventory of what he's giving his nearest and dearest for Christmas. He seems to have followed his usual practice of spending a great deal of money with the least possible thought or effort. But you can't fault his generosity. I wonder what he gets in return. He must be hell to buy presents for.

Morning all.

He's said in the past he doesn't really care about receiving presents, it's all about the buying for him. I believe him when he says this, kinda of akin to always picking up the bill in a restaurant ... ?

But he doesn't appreciate that pleasure in giving is a two-way thing. He should let them give him a gift and receive it graciously. I remember, quite a few years ago, he had his chums (John Warrington etc) in the studio on his Christmas morning show. One of them gave him a present - I can't remember exactly what. He dismissed it as rubbish and gave it to Petrie Hoskin for her son.

Exactly. The price of everything and the value of nothing applies very much to Steve. Generosity has a few definitions, it's not always about money, and why does he always have to tell us about how generous he is?

Steve is disturbingly bitchy over David Walliams at present. What's he ever done that's so wrong?

You could say that about almost anybody he mentions. It's his constant bitching about Prince Harry that gets me down, especially the smutty innuendo about his girlfriend.

Steve doesn't approve of Prince Harry's girlfriend. He comes out with things along the lines of, "she's an actress", "she'll never fit in with Royal etiquette". I imagine SA sees her as another celeb to bash.

I was half asleep listening to Steve this morning. I'm sure he played a bit of a Gene Pitney record, if so, what was it?
