Fanny Allen comedy gold today (damn you insomnia) was criticising Kershaw... go away Andy no one cares what you think, you're a sad old man and irrelevant wittering on about George Michael and no one cares............... err....pot kettle anyone??? [/QUOTE]

Fanny cheered himself up by playing his favourite game, "If I won the lottery ..." There were four versions:
1) How much would I have to win to be comfortable for the rest of my life?
2) How could I keep all the money for myself
3) What houses could I buy (courtesy of a narrated tour round the Knight Frank website)
4) Making a television programme in which the newly empowered Fanny exposes and humiliates the "trolls" that live in his imagination.

They aren't obliged to explain, and presumably if they went into details they'd be repeating the offence. It's enough for you to know that the 'disappeared' has broken the T&Cs. They do let the offender know by email.

Hi PeachyKeen

You clearly have a point. I would argue that this particularly applies to the musicians who have died as somehow it seems wrong for a speech based station to suddenly become music fans and "experts " I also write this as a fan of several of the musicians who have sadly died this year. Pay respect but also move on.

Stations which played a lot of their music are the ones that fans will turn to.

Do you not/ have you never had that teeny moment where you dream about winning the lottery?

If he really was meant to be taken seriously, he would have lost his job years ago. Fact remains, he is a very clever broadcaster at what he does and is still very much in demand.

He has his moments but more often than not he makes me chuckle. Light hearted nonsense is meant to be taken as light hearted nonsense.

I imagine defending the Mcann parents is like rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic after it has hit the iceberg........a fairly pointless exercise 😜

I agree, mumbles, SA should not be taken so literally

During these intense and politically dark days - I enjoy his 'nonsense.' 😉 That's me,
though, and I believe that I am in the minority on here

Happy Friday to you All 💕🥂

I know that the 'Mountains of Mijas' are on a different time zone CC, but you seem to have gained a whole day......is it something to do with Brexit? 😀

I don't believe that Fanny Allen's stream of semi-conscious meanderings are an act (very clever or otherwise) although it hardly matters. His persona is ridiculous and thus I believe worthy of ridicule.

This morning he was faintly incredulous about the apparent waste of M&S throwing away food (couldn't they give the sandwiches to poor people?) while only yesterday explaining how he bought a M&S sherry trifle intended for 6 people but felt so guilty that he would most likely wait until it was past it's "sell-by" and then throw it away.

I've been loving the stand-ins on LBC.

Martin Stanford, John Stapleton, BOTH brilliant. This is the type of host LBC was renowned for.

John Stapleton is brilliant.

How refreshing it is to hear a PROPER conversation this time of the day on LBC - instead of that idiot O'Brien trying to be the big man. Trying to be clever. Trying to make himself the centre of attention. Trying to humiliate people.

What a complete loser he is. I wish LBC would have the guts to sack him.

On Sunday, Steve Allen has his "In Conversation" programme from 5am-7am, then he is hosting the Breakfast show from 7am-10am, and then has another "In Conversation" programme from 9pm-10pm! 6 whole hours of Steve Allen on Sunday!

He's too popular for that to even be considered I'd imagine. Whilst I have no love for the man, he still has me tuning in, very often in awe of his intellect. Yes he's opinionated but I bet somewhere, deep down he's a softie.

We were recently talking about the filtering of calls before they go to air. Radiodad explained why it is necessary. Ex-presenter and phone-op Martha Kearney wrote this article nearly a couple of years ago about her early days at LBC. It seems like not a lot has changed, other than perhaps the technology.

It is quite refreshing having a 'GOBBER JOB' free week.
Like you mumbles, I suspect he does have a sensitive side, mostly hidden from view.
I agree with his rather old fashioned view of marriage and he clearly is devoted to his children.......but his views on drugs, politics and the world in general are at odds with mine and many of his listeners.
He is articulate and suits radio, yet he seems desperate to get into TV.
He doesn't have the relaxed, natural style of Dimbleby, Neil or Paxman I'm afraid.
Take a look at this piece to see what I mean. He looks like an oily, awkward, trainee oik in an ill fitting suit being let loose on members of the public on his first day........ an uncomfortable cross between Kilroy & Jeremy Kyle.
You can see why it only lasted for 9 episodes.

I am very sorry for Iain's loss. My father died many years and never does a day goes by without me thinking about him.

Sincere condolences to Iain and his family x

Losing somebody close is always dreadful but It's a b*gger when it happens at Christmas. Many years ago my husband died on Christmas Eve, after a short illness. The dilemma is whether to let friends know and have them feel sad over the holiday or wait and have them feel guilty about having enjoyed themselves! And everything is closed for several days, so getting the practical stuff done is a nightmare.

A bit OT as Talk not LBC but I've just been on with James Max on what people are doing NYE

He sounded a bit keen on getting callers(desperate?) and felt a bit sorry for him so I did.....

My experience on there was alright....

Had to be on hold for 25 minutes though though they did call me back when I got through after a minute or two......
Was quite pleasant actually though I know wasn't exactly a controversial topic....
and producer/researcher apologised after call ended as he got my name wrong as they used my Twitter name but it was all fine...
Even got to call Julia Hartley-Brewer the Goddess on air which he laughed at and referred to working with Julia back at "the dark side" as he calls LBC...

hopefully didn't bore people too much with geeky petrol head talk about Mini's, Austins and Bentleys if you heard it.......Sorry

Yes Annie from Caernforth!

I was amazed. That is her third evening in a row phoning in to Nick Abbott. I'm no lefty but I always admire her calls. Her views are well thought out and she articulates them well.

I noticed also Keith from Rickmansworth has phoned in to Nick several evenings in a row. A completely different side to him. We usually know him as the very waspish, ex grammer school, Clement Atlee-esk, old style left winger with an axe to grind against anything Conservative. No sign of that though, quite a well humoured chap.
