A tad OTT but he's got a point. It's refreshing to hear TS listening to callers without interrupting and pushing his own point of view.
Morning all. ![]() I presume JOB is back next week? ![]() Ps ICs comments were quite uncalled for and very unfair - on North Korea. |

Fantastic call to Tom Swarbrick from that young woman just now (describing her anguish about her feelings of depression). My heart goes out to her. Quote:
Having listened to LBC this morning I feel that Tom Swarbrick should be installed as the new hero for all aspiring broadcasters, or indeed anyone like myself who has ever picked up a microphone and contributed to radio.
The reason, I hear you ask... Living proof that no matter how dull, boring or just plain carp you are, you too may one day get to present a programme on national radio. My second reaction is: Yes you are right. I had such high hopes for TS after his broadcast from Lesbos which was a stunning piece of radio. |

Yep, and that's the reason I'm trying out talkRADIO more and more.
How about everyone else? Has the new station changed your listening habits at all? The weekend has the potential to be a real alternative to LBC. Its not quite there yet though. |

How about everyone else? Has the new station changed your listening habits at all? It has drawn me away from LBC but primarily because I only really listen to JOB's show and he is on holiday over the Easter break. Otherwise I do take time to download Nick Allen's LBC shows and I also listen again to Iain Lee (I usually go to bed at 10pm). These last two I have been listening to at work at various times depending on how the topic on live TR interests me. I'm sure there will be a shuffle before long in the daytime schedule as I don't think some of the presenters quite fit the time (for example JH who should be on drive with his dip-in comedy style). |

Was curious when I heard Steve refusing to discuss the front page of the Daily Star . Turns out to be a story about Vernon Kaye. Meat, drink and two veg (sprouts included) for Steve usually, unless of course the subject is working for a radio station that's part of the Global group.

Listened to a 5 minute rant as steve badly confused how the world works on the back of a newspaper "shock column writer piece" adding his own poor understanding of things. (I was waiting for the weather report as yesterday I got caught in a downpour - and 160z cloth suits do not like being drenched)
Seems he knows all about airport security - and seems to expect a dog sniffing everyones crotch while a bazooka is shoved in their face as they enter and walk through an airport post Brussels. But security is far more "invisible" than that... eg http://fortune.com/2016/03/22/biometric-sensors-banks/ Something wasn’t right. An uneasy feeling swept over the security specialists watching activity at the bank. A sensor in the branch, located in a port city on the East Coast, had detected unusual heartbeats and body heat patterns from new customers who had come to open an account. "...the biometric sensors installed at the bank branch detected patterns that pointed to telltale signs of stress, tipping off the bank to the ruse. This episode, which took place last year, is one of the more dramatic examples of how the financial services industry is deploying various types of biometric technology to rebuff sophisticated criminals...." If you think the banks were first and not the security services to these types of scanner... mannerism spotting cameras have been in use across London for a decade in stations etc. The guy just talks rubbish to people who then repeat it as fact - it is fine when he says irrelevances about irrelevant z-listers... but actual "news" rants he bases on what he knows from watching a reality tv show or fly on the wall "sensationalist" police camera shows and it is pathetic. |

Nick was discussing the decision by an Australian university to refer to England "invading" that country, rather than the previously-used terminology of "settled". If the exchange above is true (apparently took place this morning according to the LBC tweet I copied) it must be hard to find a more inane host on national radio."We do not call them Aborigines, Maoris or anything else, we call them First Nations. And why? They were there first," Jas told Nick - who naturally had some follow-up questions. "Just say Maori. Go on, say it," he urged Jas. "No, I don't want to say Maori!" the caller insisted. "Ah! You said it! I gotcha!" said a delighted Nick. "You said Maori, you said Maori." I do realise some easily-amused soul somewhere will find the above hysterical but surely it must be time for Ferrari to go. |

BIB: Not unusual at airports, I imagine, given that a lot of people are nervous about flying.
i could have used another even more what the hell! as an apt example "....Almost 30 percent of retailers in the U.K. are already using the technology, says Computer Sciences, an IT consulting firm that works with stores" --- 30% of UK's larger store groups are already testing in store face tracking linked to targetted sale pushing software!! http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...used-by-police So again... those airports are crammed full of these things, lots of different types... you don't need the sort of "knee jerk talking with no knowledge" ranting solutions of Steve's... as people will accept his simplistic view and repeat his rubbish. |

It is a well-rehearsed routine by now:
1. Some atrocity / outrageous quote / Daily Mail headline 2. 'Topic of the day: t's all the fault of Muslims and we should therefore leave the EU' or variations thereof 3. Some soft-spoken 'expert' on all things Islamic is interviewed - some EDL guy lately, a UKIP guy otherwise 4. Caller 1: basically yes it's all their fault 5. Caller 2: I'm not racist coz i enjoy hummus so there, but yeah its all their fault 6. Caller 3:: I dont agree (natch) but it needs saying , 30 times a day if possible, coz we have freedomofspeech (all one word) here innit 7. Caller 4: it's outrageous to have this on air (make sure s/he shouts a lot / otherwise sounds very agitated) 8. Caller 5: freedomofspeech you see, freedomofspeech, particularly for bigots. 9. It's a wrap and onto more of the same! Quote:
What you describe above is exactly the format which was followed on LBC by Swarbrick at 5pm yesterday when discussing Tony Blair's comments on Islam in The Sunday Times.
Same old, same old...nothing new is brought into the discussion. Quote:
Yep, and that's the reason I'm trying out talkRADIO more and more.
How about everyone else? Has the new station changed your listening habits at all? delaney is a bore. not a fan of paul ross nor ferrari or vanessa .. Quote:

At a time when the news agenda is overwhelmingly about the loss of jobs in the UK Steel Industry, what is Ferrari discussing with his callers?
