I appreciate his finding a great family unit in the Carters.

Do not appreciate him bringing back Stacey or the long boring dragged out Bobby killed Lucy reveal.

Kathys badly constructed return from the dead and Ronnie turning into a murderer were not great either.

Sorry Dom but I can think of way more negatives over positives.

I loved his first Christmas with Carol discovering she had cancer and David V Janine. Very solid, character driven episodes. And also the arrival of Mick. Carol's whole time under DTC was very good, very character driven and a great exit.

The original Carter stuff was amazing. In retrospect, making Shirley Mick's mum was a mistake and was too much on top of everything else they had planned. But Stan was a pleasure to watch. Original Johnny was the closest a Soap character has ever been to me in real life and I really enjoyed his slow development throughout that year.

Stacey's original return was dragged out, but as soon as she started settling back into the Square it was great. I also loved Kat and Alfie's whole arc, with the fire, scars, the suicide, nuns, secret son, lottery win and then brief return. Only thing I didn't really need or get was Charlie's death.

Nick's return was amazing TV. That was Nick at his best for about 15/20 years. Charlie and Yvonne were great characters and it was the most interesting Ronnie has ever been for me. It all went wrong following the Roxy/Charlie fling which was a shame. It was the correct decision to kill Nick off in live week.

I've also loved what he has done with Sharon, Ben, Shabnam and Kush, Nancy, Lee, Lauren, Patrick and Denise, Cora, Tamwar and the Cokers during his time on the show.

Live week was sensational. I'm not a massive Tanya fan but her return was good. The wedding and Bobby reveal was great TV. And the flash back was brilliant. And Kathy's return, had me screaming at the TV. Kathy's return long term will work out and a great decision but the actual return episodes were wrongly judged and let the story down.

I've loved the return of the surprise, but ultimately the Beale/Lucy story is one of my favs the show has ever done. The last few weeks of tragic Lucy's life, with her meeting Lee, getting rid of Danny and trying to build a business with Lauren was great, her death, the grief it was so poetic and beautiful. And then the shocks and secrets started rolling out. It peaked in the live episode, following the flashback and Bobby reveal. Peter's exit was badly timed I feel but they couldn't help Ben quitting. It went a bit wrong in the Summer, Liam should never have found out and Max should have been found innocent and escaped with Lauren to New Zealand. But it found it's feet again building up to Christmas with Kathy finding the truth, Jane's falls and then Bobby discovering what he did. Shipping him off to boarding school is only to save their asses after they've realized their Max mistake. But this story is defining, show changing. Those characters can never go back and will define the rest of their time in the show. It made amazing TV and will continue for a long time to come. That will be his big moment, for what he is remembered for alongside the Carters. He made big decisions, some paid off, some didn't. But I appreciate what DTC did with the show.

I really liked the episode where the women got locked in the pub and all had a heart to heart.

The Lucy storyline buildup + trailers

Live Week

New Year 2015

The episodes where Dean admitted he raped Linda / Shabnam revealing to Stacey that she left her daughter on the doorstep and that Dean was the dad / Sharon thinking that Ian may be her brother / Max's escape+arrest and Carol's exit / Vincent being found out to be a snitch / Shabnam's stillbirth (if only Kush didn't sleep with Stacey )

I also really liked Vincent's buildup - all those secret meetings to Ronnie in the hospital and suspecting that Phil killed Carl White. We knew nothing about the character but now his character has become less exciting since Vincent is a dad

Shock returns but in particular Jane's initial first return - I was shocked to see that a soap was able to hide a character returning when nearly every little secret in storylines used to be revealed in spoilers.

I heard that SOC likes shocks and hates it when storylines are leaked, similar to DTC.

The whole Lucy storyline, the live 30th week was incredible with some first class acting! I can't believe anyone would have issues with it.

The Carters, Linda's rape, Johnny coming out.

Stacey return, her recent mental health storyline, Shabnam's baby loss.

Getting rid of some of the pointless teens.

Bringing Honey back.

Phil's and Sharon's (and Ian's) faces when they found out that Shirley's family had bought the Vic.
Denise dumping Ian...she was so dignified.
Honey's first return....I honestly thought Billy was hallucinating for a moment.
Jane admitting to killing Lucy (even though it wasn't true).
Stan's deathbed scene with Shirley
Kat meets the nun who was at Zoe's birth.
Pam meets Christine.
Dean is arrested.
Martin/Stacey on the roof of the Vic.

NYD last year with the car crash/Ronnie briefly dying and then coming back to life is the stand out episode for me personally. Also loved the Stacey 'I see the devil' moment.

Forgot Dot's last scenes with her dying son. It was extra special because June had not been given any decent material for years.

Another one that I missed off my list, that others have mentioned is the creation of Carmel and the casting of Bonnie Langford.

Live Week
Kat Convent
Sharon/Ian Sarah Phelps episode.
Stan Carter and Cora.
Ronnie's car crash NYD.
The Albert attack and aftermath - especially that episode with Marcus. Such a shame it all went to shit.
Shabnam's still birth and final episode.
The WTF Kathy return in live week
Sharon meeting Kathy in the car lot
Nick Cotton's 'death' and funeral.
Rebuilding Sharon - still not there yet but much better than 2012/13.
The aftermath episode of Roxy's attack.
Kat finding out about her secret son - it's ludicrous but I loved the episode.
Denise's horror as she realised she would be stuck with Ian once Lucy died. I felt more sorry for her than the Beales!

His hit rate on new characters was very good I liked Charlie Cotton (for the first year), Yvonne Cotton, Margaret, Emma, Keeble, Aleks. His recasts were much more effective than Newman or Kirkwood. Shabnam and Martin are fantastic. The new Ben is much better than the other two and I love the new Denny.

Despite my criticism of his over egging of plots, abundance of secret relatives and poor storyline conclusions he is talented. Just wish he had taken time to breathe and think about things a bit more instead of squandering that talent.

One of his standouts for me was the start of this year where Dean admitted to raping Linda, attempted to rape Roxy, the showdown and the wedding, followed on by the Slater fortnight. That period of 2/3 weeks felt like vintage EastEnders and kicked off a great start to the new year.
Live Week and the run up to it was very good also. Nicks death was good as it allowed him to come full circle where he had killed Reg Cox 30 years previously.
Several Carter storylines, mainly Johnnys Coming Out, Linda's Rape and Stans Death. The Ramsgate episodes were very good too.
Carols cancer was also very good, mainly because of Lindsey Coulsons brilliant acting. Her exit was lovely too.
Shabnams stillbirth,
Kat at the convent,
Stacey's Postpartum Psychosis storyline,
Sharon being attacked at the Albert,
Les/Christine,

Christmas 2013 (Janine being arrested, The Arrival of the Carters).
Ronnie killing Carl.
Carol's cancer.
Lucy's murder.
Stacey's return and Janine's final episode.
Sharon finding out about Phil's role in Dennis's death.
Johnny coming out to Mick was such a lovely scene!!!😌
Phil looking on in horror as he realises Shirley is Mick's mom.
Lucy's funeral, Ian/Phil VS Max.
Phil and Sharon's wedding episodes, Linda's rape.
Kalfie Fire drama and whole story arc for that matter.
Everything about Nick's return was fabulous!
New year 2015.
Live Week.
Kathy's return.
Max and Carol's exit(s).
Shabnam's stillbirth storyline.
Phil's alcoholism.
Charlie's death.
Dean confessing to raping Roxy/Linda.
Mick and Linda's wedding.
Christmas 2015.

When you look at it on the bigger picture, DTC has helped craft some fantastic plots and that's why I think the show has become more popular again and go on to win so many awards. It's just a shame that block storytelling, lots of boring characaters, favouritism, slow paced storylines, and other factors have stopped the show from being at its best. The day to day episodes need to deliver more that what they are IMO.

I wonder if someone will do a negative list of what he has done. I sadly do not have the heart to do it myself.

There have been many threads on his negatives we don't need another, why can't people generally have a more positive outlook, it's far healthier.

Thanks

Yes Mr Boss.

and why do you always add thanks at the end of all your posts all of the sudden. It comes across very rude and patronising. Especially in the manner you use it in.

I'm disappointed you have taken my politeness in such a fashion LM. I am not going to get into an altercation with you as I like you
