Should EE Cast Paul's Mum?
Not much is known about Paul's Mum.
Should she be cast? |

Don't think she's needed at the moment but maybe after the Ben storyline is finished that he could then go set out to find his mum. I'm assuming she left him with Laurie at a very young age so the likely hood is she would have had more kids after she left. So I would like to see his mum in the show just not at this moment in time.

Christ no, Horrible Paul has far too much screentime lurking and gurning from under that greasy mop as it is, going around taking a perverse interest in old people all the time. No wonder his mum got shot of him as soon as she was able.
Thanks. |

We need more under 35s. The show is awash with middle aged/older characters. So no.

The Cokers are dreadful. They need to be axed.

Danielle Brent could play his Mum. |

I suspect that the new producer will axe them, as a sign of the previous producers work, which has not made a big enough impact on the show to keep

I do like the Coker family unit; they're a little different and are a more solid as a family than others. I do think Paul needs more development than just being Ben's 'gay lover' as he's not been developed any more than that.

Paul has been very unpopular on here and I suspect that Ben and Johnny are more important to the new producer than Paul after all Ben is the son of two of the shows iconic characters and Johnny is a Carter!

True but it'd be so transparent that he was just a Johnny replacement and it would literally be shoving any gay characters together and show them as interchangeable - which is just awful.
Yet Emmerdale, set in the Yorkshire Dales have had plenty over the years, even though in real life there is much more likely to be a higher concentration in the East End of London than in the Dales. The difference is the channel they are aired on, and the politicians have a bit too much mouthing power over the Beeb which leaves EE vulnerable to every nut job homophobe or moralistic nobody who think they are entitled to discriminate against people they don't understand. Thanks |

You are right, however, they are sort of between a rock and a hard place with gay pairings simply because it's on the BBC. Can you imagine if there were another two or three gay characters in the soap as well as Sonia, Tina, Paul, Ben and Johnny? There would be outrage from the usual suspects accusing the BBC of corrupting children etc, etc. It would be accused of being the new Queer as Folk and the Beeb wouldn't want the hassle.
Yet Emmerdale, set in the Yorkshire Dales have had plenty over the years, even though in real life there is much more likely to be a higher concentration in the East End of London than in the Dales. Hardly BBC is the most 'quota' channel we have. That's why Sonia and Tina are safe. Masoods are safe. Donna is safe. Paul may go eventually but only after his story is done. He only came in as a plot device character anyway. Les has protection as does Stacey brother.
