I have 4 HDMI ports on my tv, but they're all labeled differently, what do they actually mean and which one should I be using for my Sky input?

HDMI(STB/DVI)
HDMI(MHL)
HDMI(ARC)
HDMI

Based on those you've listed, the one marked STB would probably be best for your Sky box. Though really any of them will probably work, however the TV may only auto switch on the input marked STB.

ARC would be the one you use if connecting the TV to an Amp/Receiver via HDMI.

MHL is apparently for connecting phones or tablets etc, but can probably be used for anything really.

The correct answer is they all are. The Sky box will work equally well in any of them. At the very basic level they are all just HDMI ports and when used with bog standard HDMI sources no one port is any different to any other.

The labels do indicate that there may be secondary functions associated with that input however which relate to specific specialised uses.

The one labelled DVI may have an associated analogue audio input, often in the form of a 3.5mm jack socket. This is for when you connect to a computer for example that only has a DVI output. DVI usually only carries video, the jack socket allows you to connect to the Line Out of the PC to pick up the audio.

As mentioned MHL is a standard for connecting phones and tablets etc.

ARC is Audio Return Channel. This sends audio from the TV back down the HDMI lead to a surround sound system for example. Saves having to run a separate audio cable so you can listen to the built in tuner of the TV over the surround system's speakers.
