Barry Grant's Stints in Brookside
How long did each of Barry's stints last in Brookside? Would appear he was the Sharon Watts of Brookside.

He was originally in it from 1982-1995, then from 1997-1998 and returned for the final episode in 2003.

Oh, he was much more interesting than Sharon Watts. Things always hotted up when Barry turned up.

I've never understand how he was so popular. He murdered a two year old baby. It was actual murder yet for some reason viewers never hated him for it.

Anyone remember they did a special video during his 97 stint called "The Lost Weekend"
I was a big fan then and used to rent that from my local video shop all the time. He had good chemistry with Claire Sweeney. |

Hadn't he had some time away some time in the mid 80s and returned not long after Sheila's rape in 1986?
I don't remember him being around all through 87 either, he only returned late in the year after Damon died but tas much more of a regular presence, especially from Summer of 88. |

He wasn't in continuously for that 13 years though. He would reguarly disappear for several months (or longer) at a time but it was believable as it would be because he'd got into trouble with local criminals or he had found work elsewhere, usually Birmingham.

Yes, Wiki are correct in the years in that he didn't officially leave during that time and i think he did appear in at least part of every year but it would often only be for very brief periods. I started watching Summer 83 (so when it was a few months old) and he left fairly quickly to get away from the fallout of his affair with Petra who then disappeared and was finally found dead, having killed herself.
As i say, it's a long time ago so my memory isn't that clear but I seem to recall that he would turn up, be the focus of a big storyline for a couple of months and then leave again for about a year or so. After that first year (82-83) i don't think he stuck around for longer than a couple of months until 88 or 89 when he would stay with either Shiela at No 10 or Terry at No9 before making a lot of money and buying the Club. As i say though, it worked well because he was the kind of character that wouldn't want to stay in one place for too long, either because he got bored or because he had people after him. Also, there were certain plots you couldn't have him around for. If, for example, he had been in Liverpool at the time of Shiela's rape, before the Police arrested her attacker, he would probably just have gone vigilante which would have completely changed the storyline. |

Has Paul "Barry Grant" Usher been in anything else since his "Des Taviner" character committed suicide in The Bill in 2007?!
With the recent rumours on the Channel 4 Facebook that Brookie's coming back, would he reprise his role? |

Barry always swore that he didn't push Sue, he just had hold of her wrist, she struggled and fell but what we saw of it (with the man's identity obscured) was pretty sinister and even if it were an accident there was no excuse for not calling an amubulance, telling the truth to save her husband) his friend) torturing himself not knowing the facts, being suspected of her murder and an innocent man (graeme) being sent to Prison and ultimately dying there. |
