We've had a Border terrier pup, but already have an adult Border , since we've had the pup who wolfs his food, our other Border, Bert won't eat his own food, he'll eat puppy food & anything else other than his own kibble, he's nearly 2 years old.

He'll go all day & eat nothing, out puppy food down he wolfs it.

There's nothing wrong with him, he's lively drinks plenty of water.

We've tried feeding them together the pup just pushes him out of the way & Bert lets him, no aggression at all, non from the pup also, tried separately still turns his nose up.

I know he won't starve but we're at a loss what to do.

It won't do him any harm to eat the puppy food for a while, I think he recognises the pup needs feeding and that is why he lets the puppy getting away with all,

Maybe you should try to feed them in separates rooms for a while?
I mean the puppy needs more feeds anyhow, and your other one only 1 or 2 feeds a day?

My guess is he is he probably feels his space has been invaded by the new puppy. You are probably, and quite understandably also giving the puppy loads of attention - which he is seeing, and feeling upset about.

I think adult dogs will tolerate puppies, and it's good for the pup to be near well-behaved adults so they learn what's expected of them. I do think however that some puppies can be too much for adult dogs, and it can get them down.

I'd ensure that your older dog gets plenty of breaks away from the puppy, and that you go out of your way to give him more attention. Take him out for walks without the puppy. Separate them a little while before feeding time, so the older dog is in a better mood when the food arrives.

My mum's got a 6mth old Border and I have a 6yr old Labradoodle. We go over to my mum's twice a week and the dogs play non-stop with each other. Up until Sunday mine never really paid any attention to the puppy food but this week chowed down on loads without us realising until there was only a couple of biscuits left.
The pup on the other hand always tries to get at my dogs food so we have to feed her out of reach of the pup.
There's never any arguing between them over food though, mine does get protective of me and pushes the pup out of the way if I'm giving him lots of attention. She'll happily let me stoke both together though!
Maybe your border is just a bit bored of the food that it's being fed everyday and has the taste for the puppy food instead. Borders tend to be quite switched on too, so if it knows you'll give it puppy food if it doesn't eat it's own it may well do that deliberately. A friends dog did something similar and would ignore his food until he got some puppy food. then he'd immediately go to his own bowl and finish that too!

Thanks, the older dog Bert (I say older 23month) has started eating Eukanuba Adult we bought today, he likes Eukanuba puppy that's why we got it, fingers crossed.

you could try premium foods other than eukanuba. Per my past research eukanuba is not good at most it is a 2 star dog food. Your dog might eat the dog food but it is not the best for him.

I've read an article that dog foods should have more meat and protein in it and not fillers like corn, whet etc. You can read it yourself here

5 Months? that's nothing in DS land. People post on threads that have been dead for 5 years let alone 5 months.

We had similar problem few years ago solved it by hand feeding them both together, the older one soon learned they were both getting same attention and they became best friends.
