I've seen a few reports stating that he takes over in 2018. If so, that's a bit of a worry. If he doesn't take over until 2018, that would mean a massive gap between series 10 and series 11.


I had assumed that he will start in 2017, which I very much hope is the case. That means, with any luck, a Spring 2018 airdate for series 11.

I think that's right - he starts work in 2017 with his first season (season 11) airing in Spring 2018. Although he and Steven Moffat must already be firmly in 'handover' territory. I would imagine there are issues they need to discuss, such as whether the 2017 companion will be staying on for 2018 or if Chibnall wants Moffat to write a 'Donna' so he can introduce his own companion.
